A few years back I purchased a 260z and instantly fell in love with Datsuns. I started this year by picking up a 280z on January 1st with the goal of building a fun track car. After some back and forth between engines and after having to put the project on hold to finish my Masters, I finally have the time to work on it. Ultimately, I settled on a 32v 4.6l build. The reasoning behind this was I was after an easily accessible engine that could put down reliable power and had no interest in the ls swap. One of my best friends is a huge mustang guy and his knowledge on the matter was another selling point for the Ford engine. If nothing else, the goal here is to have somewhere where I can lay out my thoughts and see the progress. For anyone interested in following along, you're more than welcome to check in every once in a while, check my instagram (projectdatstang), or find me on youtube (Eddie Huerta) as we will be doing our best to record and upload everything we do for anyone interested in replicating something we do, or for anyone who just wants to get a laugh from watching a couple clueless guys try their best at building a race car from scratch.

Hello All !My name is Patrick and an owner of a newly acquired 1972 240z in paint code 112 with a CSB V8 swap I bought the car for a steal from a friend of mine, and am planning on a few trivial mods before I start to enjoy driving it. I just need to get the dashboard and some interior body panels installed as my friend was planning on repainting the car. I am so glad that he didnt because I love the Lime Green/Lemon Green color. Here are a few pics of the car itself:

Hello Today I will be posting about my project that I am currently working on at the moment. The car is a 1983 280zx Turbo, I will be attempting to put a engine from a 1985 302 ford mustang 5.0L & transmission in the Z, The engine is upgraded with a Holley 850 double pumper & I also am going to try to save the turbo off the 280zx engine and adapt it with a mod if I can. A few rough steps that ill be working on will be consistent of : 1. Rebuilding my 302 engine with a kit I found. 2. Rebuilding my transmission with another kit I found. 3. Gutting a ripping out everything in the engine bay that I don't need. 4. removing old transmission. 5. removing old electric fuel pump 6. Removing old exhaust system & replace single with double (Not sure where to get it from tho) 7. Installing new fuel pump & regulator 8. Figuring out where the mounts need to go to hold the transmission 9. welding new mounts for transmission 10. Figuring out where the mounts need to go to hold the V8 engine 11. welding the new mounts on for the engine 12. Replace old shocks with new ones (Before the heavy engine & transmission is mounted) 13. replacing old brake pads with new ones 14. Sanding down body and engine bay (Getting it ready for new paint job) 15. Painting the body with a new paint job 16. removing & Installing new ECU that will control the 302 17. Installing rebuilt Transmission and bolting to new welded mounts 18. Lowering V8 302 engine into the car and bolting it into place to newly welded engine mounts 19. reconnect ecu and other wires needed 20. connect the new fuel line 21. connecting the ignition "Please feel free to comment what I might need to add to my to do list to complete my project " Links to Items I will be using: 302 Engine Rebuild Kit: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/fem-mhp178-302?seid=srese1&gclid=Cj0KEQiA1NWnBRDchObfnYrbo78BEiQA-2jqBUjyJhOLMnCqN4NMGLEr2bjhQn9i7kBmPbNI3CBWxWIaAiyg8P8HAQ Transmission Rebuild Kit: http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/item/M7000A/85-95-Mustang-T-5-Transmission-Rebuild-Kit?utm_source=google-shopping&utm_medium=comparison-shopping&utm_campaign=google-shopping-v2&year=1985&gclid=CjwKEAiAmuCnBRCLj4D7nMWqp1USJABcT4df9mLC_ISJ7PxdA8gdHsRBMAyRk6l_G6zYk2gEkzD6JxoCCCDw_wcB ECU: http://www.automotix.net/usedautoparts/1985-ford-mustang-engine_computer-product-3ts94547.html?gclid=Cj0KEQiA99qnBRDnrYCkt4ClzZABEiQAvqPaLESGks6klkmeMEu3_ErFIQ4is-zsAQdBmxxwSbAAuecaAmCA8P8HAQ Fuel Injector Kit: http://www.buyautoparts.com/plabuynow.asp?year=1985&make=Ford&model=Mustang&partname=Fuel_Injector_Set&partno=35-81164_8I&gclid=Cj0KEQiA99qnBRDnrYCkt4ClzZABEiQAvqPaLLdqEwOW2UaSH7uPrKDU5p1DGYQ_Pdiu9Hz9dR7_vuUaAkYJ8P8HAQ Fuel Pump: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hly-12-801-1 Fuel regulator: http://www.protuninglab.com/al0psiadhifu3.html?utm_source=googlepepla&utm_medium=adwords&id=56128534817 Shocks: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-280ZX-Turbo-1979-83-KYB-Rear-Gas-Shocks-Struts-NEW-Pair-/221706118466?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item339eb6e542&vxp=mtr Brakes: http://www.cquence.net/nissan-280zx-1983-performance-series-dimpled-slotted-brake-rotors.html?gclid=Cj0KEQiA99qnBRDnrYCkt4ClzZABEiQAvqPaLHWZVqyk-Aggqem_mdyJNkvVsasAiT0fX8xkxefOhAYaAqef8P8HAQ Clutch: The 280zx has a stage 3 clutch and i'm not sure if I can use it on the 302 but id like to. I finally had the time to tear down the rear end, and I found several things that I wasn't expecting. It looks like the car has an open differential (previous owner lied to me, what a shocker!), and it may be on it's last leg. It looks to me like it has a lot of play in it. Everything together makes me consider my options for a new rearend. Should I just re-build this one with an LSD? Should I get a new one? Should I just weld it and call it good? Oh, and on a side note, the PO had the rear end completely full of fluid, no wonder it leaked like it did, all that thick goopy fluid had nowhere to go when those gears started turning. It also appears that it may have had some water in the oil too, I saw what looked like whater beading up on the gears after I got the cover off. I believe that the rear end in the car is an r200, if it is I will likely rebuild or weld it. If it is an r180, I may scrap it in favor of a better option. I have a small block v8 swap in the car already, nothing crazy, but looking at around 350hp adn 350ft lbs of torque. I have a video of the rearend I took today, I am uploading it to youtube and will post a link to it soon.

Does anyone know of a shop in the southeast that specializes in Z v8 swaps? I have a 78 280 5 speed that had the engine compartment completely stripped over the weekend and was taken to the body shop yesterday for cleaning and painting. Thinking about going with a 92-93 corvette LT1swap. LS engines are a little pricey and 300 HP is enough for me. I have a 10k budget but would like to spend about half that if possible. I'm on the northshore of New Orleans.
