scarab bell-housing

I know that Scarab went out of business and

their bell-housings are no longer on the

retail market. But I am using a super-10

four speed in my conversion, and I was

thinking that the scarab bell-housing would

be the way to go because it allows the use

of the Datsun slave/master cylinders.

Surely there are still some available.

Anybody have one? Or know if it will do

what I want or where I can get one?

I can't find the bell-housing

at the z-parts web-site are you

sure he has one?

What was he asking for it?

I already have a t-10, I just

need a bell-housing, BTW.

Amen, I hope that's true Davy as I've been frugal!

Jack, why not just get the correct slave and master for that trans by OEM application from an auto parts place? OEM master and slave for a T56 is only ~110US total for me brand new by memory, and the parts you need would likely IMO be cheaper. Or get a tilton setup as I'm sure many are using alternate setups in the chevy world. I try to keep my custom parts as few as I can (anyone else have a huge running list of PN's so they remember what to buy if a replacement is needed....throttle cables, valve springs/retainers etc etc etc...) Sorry for babbling in your thread icon_smile.gif I'd rather spend $50 for a custom master to slave line than roust up that bellhousing for which an OE bellhousing should be found without a great effort. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

I have seen an adaptor made for a regular T-10 bellhousing on a race car. It places the Slave cylinder (ironically from a Datsun) in the right position to push the lever arm. It was made from a pretty beefy section of angle iron, probably 4 x 4 x 3/8" and bolted on by the bellhousing bolts. I'll try to find a pic. The bad part was the location of the slave cyl. was farther forward, beside the engine block AIR, not alongside the bellhousing. I would be concerend with the slave cyl being so close to (or interfering with) the exhaust manifold and steering column in a Z.

email me at kbella@earthlink.net if you want the picture.

I would really like to know about that kit Trevor. I want a Toploader gear box but am weary of the work involved. I would mu8ch rather pour my time into other things and spend the money for a tranny setup.

homie, slow it down, you dont need the scarab bellhousing playboy, youll pay hecka cash for a bellhousing that isnt even scatterproof, you know i love them muncies and t-10's best trannies ever to me. you can get a lakewood scattershield and remount the slave from the datsun to make it work, for cheap style, er um, cheaper style, thats what i have, or had.... icon_sad.gif
