L28 3.1 misc questions

Hi all!

My friend asked me to build an L28 3.1 engine for his Nissan Gloria 330 (JDM cars are more common here).

The power that we actually aim is about 300 hp or more, but N/A. He asked me to build a twin-turbo which is a fairly legendary engine, but he has never driven a 300+ hp car, so I brought him home that L28 3.1 N/A would be enough for him and his 330. As a TT-setup would require some lots of mods to the car.

I've read the following books, but they actually don't cover the LD28 crank swap and a 3.1 build-up overall.

Even if my japanese was better, the L6 book would be still worthless, actually. There are some 3.1 liter built cars overview, basic assembly tips, lots of shop info and complete lack of parts overview.

So...

1. Where have all the threads gone? I remember here were a lot of pinned threads with lots of info, but now I can't find any of them. There was a porting thread also...

2. L-series oil pickup modification: does anybody have it done on his L28? I'm going to use Tomei L28 oil pump, just wonder if it makes sense.

3. What's about overheating in the 4th cylinder? Any chance to cure it? Did anybody try drilling steam holes or some stuff?

4. Should I remove the restrictor inside the main oil passage?

5. L28 race type bearings?

6. Actually, I haven't chosen the pistons and the rods yet. I have a spare set of L20 JDM inline-6 rods, but there are some L14 JDM rods which are rare, but are iconic for an L28 3.1. But would they make sense?

As for pistons I'm thinking about Kameari. Though some of japanese builders say that Wiseco pistons, ordered by the US Z-club, are the best, though they weigh more and so on.

As for carbs, we got 3 dual side-draught carbs with all the stuff on from a 280 hp L28 setup shipped from Japan.

I hope someone reads the post and I'll get at least some answers on my questions.

Thank you!

Alex from Russia.
