Guest Anonymous
I was just curious if somebody might know the stock horsepower on an 88 carbed 5.0 ? Also how dose that compare to a stock chevy 350? Thanks again for your help Tony
blueovalz
The '88 GT 5.0 was rated at 225hp. I do not know what the bow-tie was rated at. Terry
Guest JAMIE T
Don't under estimate that 225hp either. It doesn't seem like much, but is enough to put a 3200lb mustang into the very low 13's on a slick and some 3.73 gears. For Ford parts, visit www.holcomania.com order a catalog. alsil
Depends on the year, but mostly if you put a carb on a stock 5.0 motor, you will get 270hp. Just because of the limitations of the EFI intake. You will get a bit more torque, too, but you will get 8-10 less MPG. That's the EFI's strongpoint, efficiency. Although you could get the EFI to put out that much with injector and ignition tweaks. Stock 350? Depends on the year, but it could be anywhere from 140hp (early 70's) to 350hp (late 60's, late 80's-up) and depends on the state of engine parts. Either way, Ford or Chevy, you can make the motors produce the power you want. Just depends on how much you want to spend. Guest JAMIE T
Bone stock 87-88 Mustangs ran 14.20's all day long(in 1988). Gears and slicks and some heavy powershifts are all it takes to go mid 13's in a Mustang. Some pulleys, exhaust, headers, and a few other miner bolt ons will put you in solid low 13's on slicks. fl327
5.0 ho motors from 86-92 made 225hp and 300lbs flat, stock rollerized, revs up like a madman... the iroc 350's had about 235-240 hp and a lot more torque, like 350lbs or so, the newer generation lt-1 camaro and firebirds had around 300hp. advantages to the 5.0 motor is that it is narrower and lighter than your average chevy small block....
