NightCrawleR
Hi guys. I own a 280z 1976 with manual transmission. I am facing a problem of starting the car, the key doesn't go in .. I can only get it half way through only. The car is ON mode with the brake light on and the fuel gauge showing the level of fuel on the tank !!!!! I switched off the car normally and went for dinner, when I came back I tried to insert the key and it doesn't accept. I never got any issue or sign of something going wrong with the ignition !!! The car is not on lock mode, cause I can turn the wheels right and left. Also I tried to change the sides, or try to insert slowly. Or try to move the steering right and left ... Also tried to turn the key even if it's not fully in and still no luck !?!?! Any body faced this before ?!?! And tips or hints on how to fix this ?!?! Thanks guys
gearheadstik
Sounds like a broken lock cylinder. If you don't get it going you could just drop the clam shell and unplug the ign switch then remove 2 small screws that hold it to the lock, then use a flat head screw driver to start till repaired.... Just a thought... I have one that I'm doing that with now.
Grip_Z
+1 for broken lock cylinder. My 77 ignition was the same way till I took it apart and rebuilt it using parts of spares I had laying around.
dexter72
In the mean time, just disconnect the negative battery cable until you can fix the lock cylinder.
