Hi,

You know that is a great question! I don't know what their function is in the first place other then to drain water out of the car should it get flooded. One would have to remove the carpet anyway to get to them. Mine were also covered over with sound deadening material from the factory so go figure. I would say weld them closed. I probably should do that too. Perhaps someone else will tell us what their function is for.

I noticed I said fabricating the frame rail. Meant to say sub-frame connectors.

Mine's already down to the body shell...so I have the benefit of not having to remove the carpet. Also, I figured it was cheaper and easier than trying to find replacements for the missing or rotted out rubber plugs to simply hole-saw some plugs out of 16 gauge and weld them in. And something tells me that if the car floods to the point I've got to drain water out, I've probably got bigger problems :)

The other thought I had is that it _might_ (and I'm no expert on this) provide just a teensy bit of stiffness to the body.

I am working on the floors in my 82 right now.I cut just what was bad out and replaced with 18 ga.I did the floor supports in 1 x 3 steel tubing.I hope to finish them up this week.I also have an 81 turbo to have do.With it I think I am going to re do the whole floor and a rework of the floor supports is going to happen also.Your work looks good.It is just a slow process to do right.
