280Z brake issue with S14 master cylinder....

Recommended Posts

Well - as i got my Z - original 17/18 master cylinder along with the servo - was shot... cylinder was coroded to death - and as i had no quick options to get a replacment (i live in Europe - where Z's are quite rare - and getting parts for them means buing everything from USA...) i used brake cylinder from S14 (non ABS 15/16 one) along with re-worked to fit brake vacum. And as i re-did all the brake lines also - i droped off the NP valve away - thinking that i will not be needing it as i will be running non-abs cylinder with proportion valve inside (mistake?).

And from that point - i can not get brakes to work at all... Bleeded them 10 times and no air is in system, but brake pedal goes totaly to the flor with only SLIGHT pressure on the calipers at the first press, second press - it gets better, and on the third - brakes seems to be normal. I let pedal off - sit for a sec, and again - pedal goes all the way to the flor...

I tryed to adjust rear cylinders that calipers would barely touch drums - no better... While pressing pedal first time - its clearcly visible that fuid level drops, second press - drops a bit again - and once i let the pedal off - fluid level starts toping. At first - i thought about master cylinder beeing shot - and took another one - same problem again... Tryed 3 different types of cylinders - and same problem persist :(

Anyone have ANY ideas? Did i made a huge mistake droping NP valve away?

Thanks for any help!

Did you bench bleed the master cylinder?

Here is another master cylinder you could use as a replacement. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/102754-a-one-inch-diameter-brake-master-cylinder-for-the-s30-z-cars/

Yes i did... Saw this topic long time ago, and im already thinking abotu going this route, but still need to figure out my damn issue...

Did you also check that the push rod between the booster and the master cylinder is the correct length? Since you are using a non-stock master cylinder the push rod may need to be adjusted out longer.

Yes i did. Push rod / pedal has maximum travel. Its not the case in these things.
