Guest Anonymous
Just wondering what I might be getting into as a long time investment.
BLKMGK
How much do you spend to keep up any car? You change the oil, grease the chassis, maybe replace some tirm occasionally. If it rusts you must repair it etc. etc. The hardest part is going to be not modifying it further That gets expensive!
Guest Anonymous
Assuming that you initially renew all mechanical areas of the car, maintenance will be limited lube/oil changes and a routine front end alignment perhaps. If you can convince yourself that the car is fast enought, handles well enough, etc, then this will be a reasonably inexpensive car to own over the long haul. I agree with BLKMGK that everything will be great until you decide to find that last 5% in handling or another 100 HP. V-8 Z cars like growing kids, they always seem to need new shoes. Tires are for me the most expensive yearly or semi-yearly expenditures. My greatest cost per mile over the last 16 years on this car has been tires and insurance. Even at that I have calculated that over the long haul the car has cost me less than 50 cents a mile to drive. If I could drive it more (winter comes like it nor not) this cost would be even lower simply because the fixed costs of acquistion and insurance would be diluted over more miles. All I can say is it the cheapest "E" ticket ride on the planet. Cars with comparable performance numbers cost some five times as much to buy and you still don't have a Z car under you! blueovalz
If I could go one single year without upgrading or re-modifying something on the car, it would be no more than any other car, but my wife says it is very expensive (asked her to pick up a case of Mobil 1 motor oil at Wal-Mart the other day. It was not long before she called me on the cell phone with the attendant comment about the price). Live and learn.
GrayZee
I've owned a few Zcars and I always seem to buy the "fixer uppers" At first I spend a small fourtune on them but after they are repaired and brought back up to snuff. They are quite reliable. Of course there is always the stereo upgrades, cosmetics, more horsepower, handling upgrades, ect. that will drive up the costs! fl327
i think it is just like any other type of car that you are trying to hop up, race and stuff, it all is gonna cost you one way or another, and you should be prepared and be advised before you ever get into it, youre never finished, and when you are, You sell... Guest Anonymous
I think after a time people finally come to the realization that any money you put in, you won't see a fraction of when you finally do sell it. Witness the V8Z cars that come up for sale that you know have well over 10 grand into and can't sell for even 5 grand. Sad. Build it, drive it, improve it, rebuild it, lather rinse and repeat. (I like to think of it as a cheap car payment for upkeep on it, sometimes its cheap to keep up, other times, not so cheap.)
