I am going to go pick myself up an engine tomorrow. I might be sinning, but its going to be a nissan turbo engine out of an 82zxt. Not really a hybrid, though I will be running a hybrid turbo! (does that count?)

 

I've been quoted $200US for the engine, wiring, afm, ecu, fuel pump, turbo, etc. Engine may be bagged, but I still feel I am getting a good deal even if it is...

 

I think I'll go more high-tech too, with a programmable FI system...

From a wreckers around here actually. Everyone else was asking about $300-$350 for the same setup.

 

I've allready got my current motor sold for the same as I am paying for the new one too. Not too shabby. Damn its ugly outside... maybe I should wait until tomorrow.

I'm located in Vancouver, BC, Canada. And actually I know of another engine around for about $300US. (turbo) I ended up buying the $200 one today. Will have it in my hands by monday. Then starts the teardown. I'm missing the ECU, wiring harness, and AFM however. In a moment where I thought I had more money than I do, I planned on going with an SDS programmable system... Eliminating the need for ECU, AFM and harness.

 

I'm not sure if I'll be looking for these things again or not, we'll see what I can get an SDS for.

 

Going to do basically a stock rebuild of the block and head, valve job, rings and bearings, mild head cleanup... Right now I am going to see if I can squeek out enough to go with the SDS at the same time.

 

Half the people working for my company got laid off this week... Happy to still be employed.

If you go with the SDS you will not regret it. The programmable system is the key to extracting the HP but you also need the right combination of parts. Get a 60mm TB from a 240SX or early-90s Mustang GT, the right size turbo, 3" mandrel exhaust, 550cc injectors with an FPR and pump, and DONT, repat DONT go cheap on the I/C. Resist the urge to go cheap with a Starion or Supra, et al.

 

As the saying goes, "whatever blows your skirt up". It is all about pride of ownership and having fun.

If you go with the SDS and stock turbo, you will basically have the same setup I did. I did not use 550cc injs with the stock turbo, but instead used the 370cc injs from the early SVO/XR4Ti. It requires a mod which is on my page. With 50+psi, they are good for 300+hp.

 

With that setup I went 13.02 @ 110.97 on street tires. You will go nowhere if you dont also spend some $$$ on the suspension and tires. I eventually got a 1.74 60' and that setup should also work for the GN and therefore V-8s.

Thanks Scottie. I've actually been following your pages and progress for about a year now. smile.gif Problem is my funds are limited, and the car is my daily driver. So the solution for now is to rebuild the bottom end (timing chain, bearings, rings) bolt it in to get my transportation back, then upgrade over time from there.

 

I am going to call SDS today and find out some more info. What did your 550cc injectors come off of? 3" exhaust is planned, going to get some mandrel bent 270's and cut and weld and install it myself. TB is a bolt on upgrade, it'll have to wait a bit... bigger turbo will have to wait a little too. First performance mod after the engine is installed will indeed be the baddest I/C I can find. smile.gif

 

Which one of the SDS systems did you go with?
