p79 or p90

I can find lots of p79s, but p90s are harder to find.

What's the difference? Do you really want a p90 for a turbo? Is p90a the hyrdaulic lifter version?

What years did the p90 heads come in?

Can you easily tell the hydraulic lifters by the lack of adjustment nuts on the rocker arm seats?

Seems like I read somewhere that 81-82 turbos had the p90 and 83 turbos had the p90a. That shop in montgomery said he had several good motos with p90's for $350. I'm thinking about snatching one up myself to have for another spair for when I blow mine. smile.gif

I have 2 P90 heads in my garage right now. The P90 and P79 have identical combustion chambers which are deeper than the N42 or N47. The P79 has the exhaust port liners just like the N47 whereas the P90 has the square exhaust ports and is supposed to be a bit more "open" where the air transitions from combustion to exhaust. The P90 has mechanical lifters. The P99 (sometimes called P90a) is the same as the P90 but has the hydraulic lifters.

Hope this helps.
