Moridin
I wanted to know if any of you had any experience with this swap. I know a place where I can get a good deal on a DOHC 3.5L BMW inline 6. I know that the crossmember on the 240Z gets in the way of the oil pan, but couldn't you modify the pan or get a smaller one and go with a dry sump? Thanks in advance. blueovalz
This brings to mind something I thought about at one point in my V8 swap, especially in view of my solid mounting of the engine and tranny. My thoughts at one point would be to allow the engine block itself to be a primary member of the crossmember. With a long inline, the engine mounts are usually midway along the block. With properly designed parts that connect the frame rails to the sides of the block, you could in essence use the block as part of the crossmember. I mean, the engine weight is only held up by 4, 10mm bolts on the OEM set-up anyway. The rack and front bar are another question, but again, it all matters on the block situation. This thought came up again with the GM I6 that they are making. Terry
Drax240z
Look around the old messages in this forum, I had considered the swap in the past and found out a few things that I posted in the past. ------------------ Richard Lewis
Moridin
Drax, I was looking around for those BMW motor swap posts, but I couldn't seem to find them. Would you happen to know where they are?

Moridin
Thanks Drax. There is a lot more research that I need to do, but it gets me started. Would you happen to know of any online junkyards that advertise their cars, so I can see if there is something cool. Thanks again, moridin2004
Guest jens
How about the old bmw 745i turbo engine it delivers 400 hp at 1,1 bar for a reasonable price. See this link for upgrade kit http://www.tuoma.com/Tune_up/tunepart.htm
Moridin
Would you happen to know where I could find the 745i turbo engine and if so, how much?

Guest jens
Well i live in europe here i have seen several running 745 turbo cars for 2000$. They are not popular here because of the insurance and gas mileage. The opgrade to 350-400 hp is only 527$ so its cheaper than buying a e34 24v engine. fl327
oh, well if its like that, do it man do it, i forget that it is different country to country. over here the v8's are the best bang for your buck in town. if i were where you were at, i might go the same route, maybe a land rover 8? go for it man, go for it, and please show us! Guest jens
The problem is the z has never been sold in europe so its a collectors item = $$$ and the law dislikes engine conversions that add too much frontaxle weight and more than a 20% horsepower gain unless im willing to pay 105% of the cars estimated price in taxes. So a 180 hp smog 350 chevy with painted alu heads or a 302 ford would be my choice. I have only seen 1 imported z with v8 in denmark and 2 standard. Guest Anonymous
Hey guys, I'm new to HybridZ and thought maybe I could contribute to this thread since I'm a hardcore BMW enthusiast. The 745i engines aren't very plentiful in the states and when you find one you'll probably wanna rebuild it just to make sure it's solid. Unless you're dead set on being "different" you could find a more readily available BMW engine that would go in and be tuned for increased output.
