Dreamsmasher
Greetings all! I'm new here and new to owning a Z (pictured here http://imgur.com/a/WdWSJ). I've been lurking for a few weeks enjoying all the amazing creations and soaking up as much knowledge as I can. But unfortunately I've hit a snag while working on my 82'. I noticed that the rear diff was very caked over and surely leaking while changing my exhaust/intake manifold gasket (exhaust leak). So the plan was simply remove the cover clean everything thoroughly inspect for damage, make a new gasket out of RTV and seal 'er up. But like many things in life it wasn't as simple as I'd have liked. I now have all the bolts out of the cover and the nut that attaches the cover to the body (also the nuts that hold the cover to that 'hanger?'). Everything is loose in varying degrees as I raise or lower the diff but I am nowhere near being able to get the cover out. I've scoured the FSM and the forums but I've had no luck. My current theory is that I may have to actually take the diff out to let it slide back away from the cover but I'd really rather not do this. Any advice or links would be greatly appreciated. BluDestiny
Wait so you're saying you removed the cover bolts, and loosened the nut that attachs it to the insulator? I would take a mallet and whack the cover pretty good. It would slide right down and you'd be able to move it enough to take it off. Can you post a pick of how its stuck?
