Hector_280z
Just bought a 77 280z. its not running at the time. it was about 10 years ago. to me it looks all stock. im trying to get it started and the guy I bought it from said it probably just needs a new fuel pump. I took his word and bought one. it turns out it wasn't it. when I turn the key to start it and it doesn't send any fuel to engine. I unplugged the small wire from the starter and turn the key to start and I can hear the pump running. any suggestions to what could be the problem. any info will help! Metro
A car that has been sitting for 10 years? You need to do all the basic tune up stuff, change filters, check the plugs, plug wires, etc. Diagnosing a no-start is pretty simple: does it have fuel, spark, and air? Check all your the systems one by one and you'll find the problem. Disconnect the fuel line after the fuel filter and run it into a bottle, does anything come out? The filter is probably plugged with 10 years worth of rust from the tank. Your pump could also be clogged with all the junk in the tank too. You need to establish fuel flow, then go from there. Hector_280z
Thanks for the reply metro. I did flush out the old gas and put in new and also replaced the fuel filter. I decided to try to put gas thrue the engine manually and it did start for a few seconds. It turned on every time I did it. I got the hose from the fuel filter and tried starting it and nothing came out. Any ideas what could it be?
NewZed
Fuel pumps will run backward. Check the wires. And the obvious, considering Metor's post - pull the hose from before the fuel filter, not after, and see if any fuel flows. Put some thought in to how things are supposed to work. What now, what now, what now will take you forever. Getting fuel to the fuel rail is probably the simplest of the problems ahead of you.
