TieFighter88
Gday, I have an 5-speed on my L28 I want to change the fluid on, however the fill bolt is more stubborn than my wife. Tried heat , lots of heat, rust penetrant, and more elbow grease than I am comfortable with. I have read about blokes welding bolts on the end, or welding bars to add more leverage on the thing, but when I look at the reverse switch, I wonder if I can fill the trans at that point... The fill bolt and the reverse switch are very close in height, and the switch comes out no problem... I did search before bugging the forum, tried: transmission bolt, stuck trans bolt, stuck fill bolt, fill bolt, etc etc.
johnc
Remove the fill plug. It takes a lot of leverage sometimes. Try 2' of pipe on the end of your wrench and make sure the wrench fits tight over or in the fill plug. Last Z I worked on took 3' of pipe on the end of a breaker bar. Use anti-sieze when you reinstall it.
RebekahsZ
Find a good rubber floor plug and drill a hole in tranny tunnel with a step drill bit. Go thru sheet metal with a 1/2" extension on an air impact wrench. Then you can fill tranny with gravity helping you instead of fighting you. TieFighter88
So, the consensus is that the reverse switch is NOT a viable point to fill the trans? Regardless of its position relative to the fill bolt/bung? Edited April 18, 2014 by TieFighter88
