rickyellow zee
Im replacing the intake /exhaust manifold gasket on my L28ET with a Felpro paper/metal/paper gasket. I have had the exhaust mani resurfaced so its flat as a pancake. Is it a good idea to use the copper spray gasket sealer on the gasket prior to installation? Ive heard lots of horror stories of people using Felpro gaskets but have also heard allot of good reviews on these gaskets. The mating surfaces are flat and clean. Thanks very much! osirus9
I didn't use any sealant on my manifold gasket and it works fine. I'd avoid it.
AkRev
That is a loaded question. Yes, you state that your surfaces are flat and clean, but at what finish? Your prep of the surface really dictates what type of gasket and products you can use (or should). Most of the horror stories could be explained by three things; No prep work, too harsh of prep work from machine shops, and my favorite, those that use fine grit sandpaper to prep the surface. http://www.frontiernet.net/~tmeyer/fpro.html Based on assumptions, I would say not needed. Assumptions; prep is within spec, new gasket, and gasket is designed to be used without the copper spray.
