str8pipez
I've been searching for a while in regard to wiring issues, but come up a bit short. I assume I know the answer but want to be sure. I pulled all the wiring from the drivers side (body harness) and want to clean up things like the coil wiring, distributor, a/c relays. etc. Stuff that obviously won't be used with the swap. Can I just cut and cap these instead of unwrapping the entire harness and removing them where they originate? I've attach pics of the wires in question. socorob
A couple of the wires can be used for things that need switched 12v power, etc. and they are already fused.
str8pipez
Good point, I just thought the same. On sorta the same topic, how about the shunt? Can't I get rid of that as well? I'm not using the Amp meter, voltage reg, or the stock alt.
Zfan1
I just purchased a painless block and harness and rewired the car, pretty scary what I found....yikes. I also just used a PSI wiring harness for my LS set up, not cheap but worth it in my opinion.
socorob
I used the lt1swap website to remove everything from my harness, pulled all the datsun fuel injection harness out, then selectively removed most of the datsun AC stuff (what I couldnt reuse for my vintage air). I think theres a black and white wire that goes to the coil that is good for the hot in start wire for the LS harness. I used a currrent performance block to power most of the LS stuff. Since I used the volvo fan relay with a taurus fan, I rewired the relays in the current performance block that were for low and high speed fans and used them for high and low beam headlight relays, to offload the combination switch. str8pipez
I also bought the PSI harness, but I'm still looking for a reason to keep the shunt. I'll pour over the wiring diagram tonight. I am planning to re use the Datsun start wire I already have. Any reason to use the black and white you describe instead?
thezguy
I'm in the middle of an EZ wiring harness install. Best $150 I ever spent.
str8pipez
This should help me trace the wires. The PROPER size wiring diagram! Edited September 24, 2014 by str8pipez

str8pipez
When you have old eyes it's what you have to do. LOVE IT! Glad I'm not the only one! Also my Black/white coil wire is only hot in the "ON" position. No worries though, the original is hot only during starting.
