383 - Vortec Heads?

Recommended Posts

I currentely have stock sbc 350 engine with Vortec heads upgraded for more lift and using XH262H cam,Holley 650 DP mechanical secundaries, headers, RPM performer manifold, MSD 6al,700r4 with 2800 stall etc.. car is running 'ok' but looking for more kick and decent times at track.. I plan on building 383 stroker and was wondering if anyone has experience with kit below and ortec heads.. Would new cam be recommended?

I would use the cam that makes the best lite end t torque. Vortec heads on a 383 isn't going to make a ton of power in higher revs. So aim to get the most torque you can. It'll pull super hard up to about 5500 rpm. And since you're running a 700r4 I'm guessing you like to cruise. The overdrive will be useless if you kill your low end torque.
