John Scott Posted March 14, 2001 Share Posted March 14, 2001 Since we had a lively post on front wheel drive a while back.., anyone catch the April Motortrend on the Z06 vs Ford FR200 Focus? Granted it has millions in Ford engineering backing it up, but the thing puts out 304 hp, out slaloms and laps the Z06! Incredible! Darn respectable 107 mph in the 1/4 too. Weight is heavier than a Hybrid V8Z @ 2780. 153.2 hp/L. Just goes to show that with enough $$ anything can go fast. 304hp 285/ft/lb@3500 would be a nice light engine in a Z! All Wheel Drive, 7 speed manual, a VERY restricted 400 horsepower that could easily be raised to well over 500hp in a car that weighs about 2500 fully rigged. Now that... sounds FUN! As for the 0.5 million on a 300 horse Focus, I can easily see where the money would get out of hand. Many high dollar items that don't do squat for performance. The car had a redsigned prototype front suspension, brakes, turbo, and who knows what else. I'm not sure where all the money goes, but well engineered products always cost more to develop than people think, so $475k is reasonable in my opinion. Kinda odd....the cobra doesn't get a 6...just the 5...weird...We should have one in a couple of months, see if i can talk my sales manager into letting me take it for a short trip...tell ya guys how it does....we did get a S2 focus today...european tuned suspension...handles fairly well, actually... randy 77zt Posted June 23, 2001 Share Posted June 23, 2001 i am a ford dealer tech-i am not looking forward to the possability of rice-boy types buying these cars-too much warrenty work. when i find that nitrous bottle in the trunk and the guy has a blown clutch-then i get the warrenty administrater out there to check it out.then you get warrenty canceled-that is how a dealer tech gets out of changing clutch and only getting paid 3.4 hours to do it.trust me-i find every way can to keep from doing warrenty work-i hate working part of the day for free.the flat rate times for this stuff are a joke.
