Guest Azel
Hey guys, I have a neighbor who has this junky old Olds Calais sitting in his backyard. He's desperately in need of some cash so he's parted the car out and ready to sell her remains. I'm interested in the engine, some H.O. Quad 4 I think? According to him, it makes 180hp with 2.3L. Sounds like it has nice specs for a four-banger, especially one that old. I've been told that this engine can be adapted to RWD with a special aftermarket bell-housing and a T56 tranny? It looks pretty compact, he even picked it up off the ground to prove that it was very light. I really don't NEED the engine as I already have no room for another motor but I think I should jump on this deal cuz he only wants $250 for the entire engine assembly including manifolds, TB, wiring, etc. Anyone know if the internals can handle some boost? I think feeding this puppy around 18PSI of boost would make for a killer HybridZ.
Kennysgreen280zt
Ive owned 3 of them in various olds and pontiacs (pre Z days , forgive me) I have to say that the headgasket is the weak point in the motor , also in FWD configuration is one of the few IMPOSSIBLE things to do while the motor is in the car. might be a little tricky to get 18psi on it stock since it should have 10.0:1 compression I always wanted to put that motor into a fiero or chevy sprint or geo metro it is a good motor though , and pulls hard for being from GM in the late 80's...... good luck , that is a killer price for the motor later! ~Kenny
denny411
that quad 4 would be one heck of an engine for an early mg midget. with a 6 speed and a turbo in a 1900 lb car,you could scream

Kennysgreen280zt
I have seen a quad 4'd MG before , wasnt a midget , possibly a MGB roadster , mid 70's. it was a really nice conversion and pretty fast according to the owner. I also have seen one used in a porsche (SP) replicar. rear engine style. It was kool too.
