Guest tom sixbey
I'm trying to build an effective air evacuation hood. The zcar's hood looks to have a good area of laminar airflow with a positive pressure gradient which would make NACA ducts very effective for air removal. If 2 ducts are used on either side of the hood bump, how large should they be, and how far back should they be on the hood? My main hope is that i can prevent all of the intake ram from being forced out underneath the car.
pparaska
Search this site for it. We've been here before. The result seemed to be that a NACA duct was not good at air extraction, just induction from a surface.
ZR8ED
Better than air extraction, is keeping the air out of the engine bay.. I put in a belly pan from the front of the airdam to the crossmember.. reduces air flow/turbulance in the engine bay...
johnc
Go to the handy dandy NASA Technical Reports Server and do a search on the term "submerged duct" and check both NACA Reports options. You'll get links to the original research reports on submerged ducts. BTW... submerged ducts work no better than a square hole in the surface for air extraction. Guest Anonymous
I seem to rember an atricle about nascar teams putting naca ducts underneath the car to create vacume and then running the hoses out the windows. They were later caught but the jist was that it worked. Any ideas on this to create a vacume car???
