bang, i dont have any shorts anywhere. its my system that is killing the stuff when i run it at night with the lights and all.

yo, send me pictures if you can and all the info you have. im going to do it. i was thinking more of a GM alternator because i think it runs around 100amps. 90 is better than what i have now though.

I don't have a picture but it's just like what you got except the cooling fan is internal on Maxima alt. I can draw you a diagram of how it should be hooked up. That's pretty simple too. the battery and the ground is same as 280z/280zx alt. the alternator charge lamp wire and the other wire just plugs up one way or another. When there is no charge light on after the two wires is hooked up(with the battery connected and key is on ON position), the wires are backward. You will need to find a shorter thrust bearing, which is behind the pulley and the fan on 280zx alt, that can be found at local import alternator shop. Or like me, grind the factory one down until it fits :D You can just email me if you still got my email. I think there were higher amp Nissan alternator at Autozone. I just got 90 amp because I didn't want to burn out the wires. I think highest they had was 110 amp.

Here is more info. Autozone P/N for the maxima alt is 14661. You should go get a core from junk yard because the core charge is like $65. $70 for the alt plus the $65 core is pricey. This is a pretty good info on the wires. http://www.zcarcreations.com/technical/lr160term.htm

Sorry David, I've not heard of a 280ZXL6 combo with a GM alternator. But any L6 motor with one could be worked from. Can't be any rocket science to it though. Get a one wire alternator and it couldn't be simpler to wire. You can get chevy alt's (and likely other) wired for up to 150Amps etc for not much dough (vs. the 200A units etc). If you get one, I'd pick a small case if they can wire up the amps you want......they're smaller and easier to fit. Some bracketry to be sorted but nothing too extreme by any means.

I've had my one wire rebuilt twice now......and no troubles since I moved it away from being adjacent to my headers

Guest bang847

wow is your alternator giving you that much trouble???

I switched mines to a maxima alternator and I love it...

is it your alternator that is bad? or do you got a voltage leak in your system from pulling the FI system??
