jaypizzle sj_240z
Hey guys was wondering if u guys can help me I recently upgraded my 73 240z to power locks, alarm and added a cd player. When I drove it was fine , the next day I started it and it was fine but after two days battery died on me. I jump the car and the car started but after 5m of running it died again. The battery is pretty old the alternator is 60 amp two years old is it the battery or alternator ? Any input is appreciated thanks
seattlejester
Put a multimeter on it. If the battery shows less then 12 volts while running then your alternator isn't charging. If the battery shows 14.7ish volts while running and you cut the power and the battery drains very quickly to below 12 volts then your battery is at fault. seattlejester
Not unless it is on or shorting. If the battery is old it is likely at fault. If you find the alternator is fine, and replace the battery, you can check to see if you have a drain by monitoring the load on the battery when the car is off. This is a fairly basic test. Any major autoparts store can test the alternator and battery for you. A slow or nice one may even help you find a major drain or at least be able to lend you their multimeter.
