Guest Anonymous
I have a 81zxt and have a halteck at home still in the box. I really don't have the 8 hundred wanted by alamo autosports to install it. If anyone has ever installed a halteck and can help me i'd be thankfull. Once again its on a 81zxt so it is crank pick up.
240Z Turbo
$800 to install a Haltech. Do you get the crack pipe once they finish smoking it? It is not rocket science and you should just follow the instructions. I will say this, even with my knowledge of tuning FI turbo systems using the Haltech is much more difficult. Guest Tim78zt
No, you are correct of course, it isn't rocket science, but in defense of licensed, trained installers everywhere (and in truth Alamo installed my DFI) there is no substitute for that expertise (and an initial setup on their dyno) . $800 is a bargain, BUT ask them if you decide to go that route for a deadline, a limit on how much time you will allow them to install it. No open-ended vague time-frames!! Just think about all that could go wrong...fried the first Haltec? Could happen! Fry the ignition because you didn't know it was not compatible with the Haltec? Who covers that? Brings me to the main point...a warranty!! That is what you are really paying for aside from the trained professional with the lower learning curve than yourself. Good luck with your project!! Tim
240Z Turbo
Tim has a point, but I always assume that if you are buying an aftermarket system you are smart enough to know how to use it. I had no experience when I bought my Tech about 4 years ago, but I got it running. My philosophy is to struggle through it yourself so you have a better understanding of your setup and system and you will better appreciate what you have. Feel free to send me an e-mail or call if you decide to set up the system yourself. Figuring out the ignition is probably the most difficult part. Everything else is butter, except the tuning...it sucks on the Haltech.
Owen
$800 for installation AND tuning I assume? Still, it's just a bunch of wires, nothing incredibly special. Just route the wires, crimp the terminals and that's it. I did mine myself but have not started the car for tuning yet. Now I know who to ask the questions too Owen PS Check your wiring against the manual, mine was different and upon contacting them, they gave me the right colors, etc. PPS Haltech USA is no better help than the guy at your local gas station. Contact Haltech in Australia directly.
