scottyMIz
Finally after numerous warnings from tim and others i grew balls and took my money from my g-friend and bought them the money went out today.Hopefully they will be here by friday if not oh well but as soon as i get them in i'm going to get it to run right and head to the track.Should i use the stock fpr on the new injectors? They are the ones scottieGNZ suggested the ones from the merkur turbo. SleeperZ
That sounds great - I don't remember what engine management you are using, but you will run a bit rich (quite a bit of difference between 260cc and 370cc - 43% more flow). I'm not sure if the AFM has that much adjustability in it, but you may have the opportunity to find out That said, I'm all ears to what you do to tune it, as I have my injectors and a stock ECU (stock for '87), and will need some tuning tips when I hook it up. I would think you will be better off with a stock pressure regulator - your crushed one will only aggravate the richness of the bigger injectors. You will not need the higher pressure to inject the fuel, and you will only load your fuel pump un-necessarily. If you don't have a mixture meter or a fuel pressure gauge you can read inside the car, be careful that your fuel pump doesn't run out of gas on you, as that is going to be the next weak link. scottyMIz
Thanks for the warning sleeper. When i get them and test them i'll let you know how i tuned it.I think just the afm will adjust that much i used the afm to adjust the rich idle and it's working great so far.I have an all stock feul system except for the fuel pump. TimZ
I agree that you should just use a stock regulator. I'm still a little worried about the pump, though. As I recall, you were having a problem where the fuel pressure would rise to something like 55psi, and then drop to something like 40psi when the boost came on. Did you ever find out why that was happening? Did you check the fuel filter as James suggested? If you are going to be running 15psi of boost, your pump will still have to deliver 36.5 (base) + 15psi = 51.5 psi of fuel pressure under boost. If the pump couldn't maintain 50psi under boost before, chances are that it still won't. The big injectors should help, but if the pump can't flow enough, the pump can't flow enough. Just to give you some more doomsday warnings, here is a link to a recent thread on the Vishnu forum: http://www.vishnuperformance.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=000886 Not exactly the same situation, but similar enough. scottyMIz
Thanks for the warning tim i'm going to check before i run it alot with the new injectors.I'm getting them either sat or tuesday.I found some problems with the fuel system and i think the filter is hurting my flow.I'm planning on a k&n filter for the fuel. What do you run?I changed the fuel hoses and fixed the fitting coming out of the pump to the engine. TimZ
Whatever you use for a fuel filter, it needs to be rated for use with fuel injection systems. The pressures are much higher, so you want something that can handle this.
