Guest Anonymous
I was wondering, looking over the topic list, there doesn't appear to be ELECTRICS, there is ignition, and we have fuel, carb and exhaust forums, but should we have maybe this ignition forum called just Electrics or something? That way it covers the whole sub system of the car ignition, charging and so forth? What do you moderators (and Super) think about it? Just an idea, mainly because I have some electrical problems and wondered where to post them, high tech or something would work, but its not really high tech is it, or Misc I suppose, but since ignition is a electrical function what do you think? fl327
i think that would be pretty cool, right now im overhauling most of my electricals, and i sure hate it, right now ive settled on the one wire at a time test, armed only with crimpers, connectors various wire and a power light tester pen gizmo, big fun, ive been taking it slow i admit, one wire a night!~!!! a section devoted to electrical would be great, cuz our cars, beautiful and fast as they may be, are very badly electrically assembled!!!!!!! Guest RXO510
We think that's a great idea. We want to rewire the 71 Z from the taillights to the headlights and the Chilton's manual just doesn't do it for us. Would love to see a forum for electrical troubleshooting. Thanks J & G
jeromio
I agree. I also think such an expansion/rename might help to fill it out a bit more too, since ignition, all by itself, isn't necessarily going to generate all that much discussion, relative to the other boards. I'm finally doing something about mine. My gauges are going screwy (aftermarket autometer's), and the headlights are flickering and all sorts of crazy chit. I'm not sure yet, but I think I'm going to try for a rewire with a junkyard donor maybe even a domestic car, I'm not sure. I'll get a fusebox out of another more suitable donor and work from there. Maybe try to use it as a auxillary until I can slowly switch circuits over (with new wiring runs for each circuit) to the new box one by one, over time, and then finally get rid of the Nissan one. Any flaw in that logic? I also need a few relays for various things which is another JY item. Why do it this way? I need the car as a driver so can't lay it up and rip all the wires out for very long... Kinda a drag to have to put the labor in vs just buying a solution, but I have to believe I'll have more satisfaction when its finally done that I did it myself. (I should live so long ). Regards and good luck with your wiring, Lone

What will you do for room? Maybe this does not even apply, but who knows? It very well may be an issue. Davy
Mike kZ
That would work for me, I've been using "Miscellaneous Tech" for my electrical needs.
pparaska
I could write a short book on electrical mods I've done to my Z. But most people aren't as nuts as me about having tons of relays to run this or that, security stuff (which I won't post so no one but me knows how it works on my car), headlights, etc. I recently drew up a circuit to cut into the headlight wiring going along the right fenderwell to add two relays, one for high beam, one for low beam. Alsil, lone and spotfitz have it (thanks spotfitz for pointing out the wire I forgot to put in). I will put it on my site and post a link to it, if anyone is interested. Not sure we need a separate forum for it, miscellaneous tech, seems to be appropriate, but I'm not against it. It would make searching for things a bit easier, so that'd be cool. jeromio
I made a tentative inspection of the headlight wiring on my car - I need to replace the switch and use relays (dim headlights that only work half the time). That diagram would be very helpful to me. I'm also planning on using Owen's Maxima switch swap. I've been having some difficulty finding the Maxima or Stanza parts for decent dollars at the local yards though.
fl327
im working out that wiring now, i hate it, its simple, but im just paranoid im gonna blow something. im in the process of disecting the pigtail connections that goe to the fusebox, and seeing which ones go to what and what or what i cant bypass. the cool part is that i have three buss fuseboxes lined up in my glovebox and it looks like the sds coilpacks! the wiring harness to the fusebox has fifteen wires, which im grateful for, im almost done, four or five left to go, and im dedicating each fusebox for a certain purpose. i cant wait to finish this one, next step: battery in the back baby.....
