Guest Anonymous
ok, first off, i have a 74 260z that i bought knowing it didnt run do to some ignition problem and i had all but given up on it till some coworkers started wanting to mess with it. and still it wont start. it has a new coil, a new distributer cap/rotor new spark plugs and spark plug wires. we checked power at the coil and it was good, then we checked power at the plug by putting my finger over the wire and i didnt get shocked which they say means there is no fire there. i dont know much about cars so i cant rule out what it may or may not be, the guy i bought it from said it may have been a computer problem in some part that only 260s had, but if i have power at the coil, doesnt that mean everything up to the coil is good? anyhow, i would appriciate any opinions you guys could share with me. thanks shawn
Mike C
260 will have a points type ignition. Get a new set and a new condensor and a manual on setting points. 99% of the time no spark with points is the condensor. Bad spark or erratic spark is the points themselves. Guest Anonymous
thanks for the advice but i had the coil replaced again today and the beast actually fired, i managed to drive it a hundred feet in reverse and then back to where it was. the tach is quite jumpy and it starts at a high idle and settles down at around 2g, but i want to make sure the radiator is full, and that i have an air filter and cover before i drive it anymore. there are a whole bunch of lines cut around the carbs so who knows what the previous owner was trying to do. i guess this is just the start of a long road. again, thanks for the suggestions. shawn
