Guest Anonymous
Hi guys. I've ordered a megasquirt (diy fuel injection computer) and now, after the fact as usual, I'm starting to think things through. Here's the question: I'd hoped to eliminate the afm. Sounds great but---as I understand it , on a turbocharged car, the ecu retards ignition during boost to prevent detonation. If I eliminate the afm, how will the ecu which I still hope to use for ignition, know when to retard ignition? Dan
SleeperZ
You can run an aftermarket ignition like MSD, which is available with a MAP sensor to pull timing with increasing boost. Otherwise, you can't do it with factory stuff. That's why for most ECUs, the ignition control and the fuel metering are combined into a single ECU.
