Mudge
I'm using .040" and all is well, anyone using more than this with the HEI setup? I'll go MSD eventually, but for now just curious on this. I am not sure what year the distributor is, it has a vacuum advance, I'll try to look for ID numbers when I head home later. Guest greimann
.035 to .040. Any more than that and you have a greater chance of misfires.
Len
This won't help you but I just had to add. Today I installed sparkplugs in a 1998 Chevy Cavalier (my daughters)and called auto parts store to get plug gap for the car. He said .060" blew me away! He said the newer cars have hotter spark to allow for wider gap. I hung up and 30 min. later had to call again to talk to another guy. The other guy looked it up & said the same .060" . I installed them along with plugwires. Car runs like a top!

Guest Anonymous
Yes the newer ignition systems are very hot indeed, this is mainly because of the leaner air fuel mixtures we run today, for emission standards.
