Scottie-GNZ
Your nuts have to go clank when you strap yourself in this short wheelbase rocket. Regardles, what a gorgeous car. For the uninitiated, a Buick Stage2 motor is the one to die for. It is the one used in the Indy Car program and 1000+hp is common. http://www.turbobuick.com/bb/Forum13/HTML/008943.html ------------------ Scottie 71 240GN-Z Scottie's GNZ
MYRON
The Opel GT!! I was going to buy one the other day for 500.00 but I have to many projects in the works! I used to drive an Opel Manta in high school and I had a blast in that car!... they are very light and handle quit well. The headlights roll over and are actuated with a large handle inside the car. The stock 4 cyl motor sits way back in the car and it would take alot of mods to put in a V motor.. I was thinking hard about doing a swap in one.. pparaska
Always liked the Manta and Opel GT. A guy used to come into the gas station I worked at in high school (back when attendants had to roam around the pumps to collect gas money) had one with a V8 in it. SWEET! The intercooler pipe feeding that Stage 2 is what, 5" diameter!? Tell us about it, Scottie! Hell of a Hybrid
Kevin Shasteen
Back in the early 90's I visited Ennis, just south of Dallas, during the Musclecar Natl's & there was a guy that ran a burnt orange Opel GT w/454.....yes a 454 in it. Needless to say he ran the 1/4 quite easily in the high 9's. I dont think it was his daily driver either.
Guest Anonymous
I knew a graduate student in school who had an opel gt with a turbo chrysler engine in it... It was pretty damn fast and looked cool too. ------------------ Morgan http://z31.com/~morgan/s30 http://carfiche.com
Scottie-GNZ
Judging from the Moster tach on the dash, I would agree that is a 5" up pipe. Here is what I know about the car: It weighs 2705lbs w/driver. It has a mild-steel tube frame with 100.5" wb. Plans are to redo the frame to 25:1c specs and stretch the wb to 112". I am surpised at the current weight. The engine is a twin-turbo 274ci Stage2. The car does not have a lot of passes on it and the reported best is 1.22 60' (HOLY SLINGSHOT!) and a 7.97 ET. Do not know the mph, but I would guess at low-mid 160s. That was done at a somewhat conservative boost level of 28-29# with the RPMs limited to low-8000s. With a little more boost and higher RPMs there is more, but my cabobulator melted down at 1004rwhp. With a little more power and less weight, it should go....... . He is going to need that extra wb. I supposed Ron could relate somewhat. I know the Opel GT's nose looks like a Vette, but from the base of the windshield back, it is pure 1st-gen Z-car. ------------------ Scottie 71 240GN-Z Scottie's GNZ
Guest RON JONES
I absolutely love it!The MPH should be more like 170,my car has gone 160mph with a 8.56et.
Scottie-GNZ
Ron, you are correct. The owner finally posted some more details. The car's best time is 7.96 @ 172.70 with a 1.22 60'. That puts the HP at 1113RWHP. He just swapped out the 4.10s for 4.56 and expects to see an improvement in his 60' time . ------------------ Scottie 71 240GN-Z Scottie's GNZ
