  1. Hey guys, Its been many years since I had my V8Z and was active on this board, but I have a buddy that just bought a fully restored UBER NICE 71 and he is having some brake issues... I Did the Toyota 4 Piston upgrade on my 77 280 and it worked great... Can Anyone tell me if this conversion will work on a 71 240?... If so,What year toyota truck calipers work best? Thanks, Myron
  2. Hey Guys, I stumbled across this when surfing the other forum I hang out on.. http://www.toysonics.com/abc-hobby-genetic-datsun-240z-bre-24017.html Myron
  3. I did some digging and a little math.. MSA doesnt make the dash cap they sell.. It looks like they just sub it out.. Anyway, a full dash cap is only 85 bucks and I cant reallly see too many people paying real money for a CF unit.. For those that dont know how the whole process works, CF is VERY labor intensive.. Especially making the molds.. After you get your molds done and if you do a vacu-form or a squish mold, there is still alot of work to be done.. If you have any blemishes you have to repair those then you have to wet sand and clear coat.. Its a major PITA and to produce a good part, you may have 15-20 man hours in it not including materials.. There are many methods of doing CF and the vacuum bagging is the least expensive material wise, but getting the a final good looking part is the kicker... Myron
  4. If MSA are the guys that actually mfg the dash cap, all they would have to do is use the existing mold and lay CF over the top of it and vacuum bag it.. All the cap is now is a vacu-formed peice of Haircell ABS that cost about 25 bucks for a 4x8 sheet.. I have a dash cap, maybe aI should use it to make a mold and pull carbon over the top just as an experiment... I'm off to my garage to look it over... Myron
  5. RSICARD, Would you try to make a mold from the original dash, or start from scratch for totally new look? When I started on mine, I did a totally one off dash and then I did a center console that fit up with the stock dash.. there is alot of complexity if you want a stock looking and functioning dash. If you were willing to install something like a vintage air ac/heat system it would make the job alot easier.. Myron
  6. Yeah, I pulled it out last night and looked at it.. IT has been sitting outside at my dads shop with the rest of the car and it looks like I should probabaly start over.. I have all the materials at our UAV shop.. I will have some time next week so I may just start a new one.. Myron
  7. Keep in mind that CF gets EXTREMELY hot when exposed to sunlight. As cool as it looks, we have had to resort to painting it or coloring the resin to keep the heat down. This is on small unmanned aircraft and some auto parts and its stinks to have to cover its original look. Not trying to rain on any parades, but if you think your interior gets hot now, make it shiney and will really give you a lesson... I do have a foam mold I started a while back to do exactly what your talking about but it will be a long road to hoe to do it right.. Myron
  8. Hey JY, Looks good!.. I found some old pics of my 77 that I will scan and post.. I'm getting too old to swing that airfile back and fourth so much! I just noticed your in H-town.. Where about are you? I grew up in Conroe and also lived in Clear lake and Spring.
  9. Yeah, thats how I did my first Z, I'm just looking to make things a little easier this go round! Myron
  10. Hey guys, Does anyone know of a smooth Roll pan for the Z? Metal of fiberglass? Myron
  11. Yes, that is the correct way, but the wording looked a bit to me like he was just going to make a "buck" and just glass over it and use that part to attach to the car... I have made alot of molds for small UA's (unmanned aircraft) and done a fair amount of carbon fiber and Kevlar parts as well. Myron
  12. Based on how I'm reading it, you plan on glassing over the top of what you have made and then pulling the "mold" out and then attaching the the glassed portion to the vehicle? IF so, your gonna have a slightly oversized front part. If its your first rodeo, I would get on youtube and look at some mold making videos.. There is some pretty good stuff out there and I would suggest trying some smaller stuff before tackling such a large part. Making molds is very tedius and time consuming and if you fubar a mold or buck it can be really frusterating! Myron
  13. Hey Master, What type of mold do you plan on doing?.. A reverse or are you going to pull glass or other down over the top of what you made in a vacuum bag? I make molds for much smaller stuff and use ABS and Carbon Fibre as the materials to make the item.. I made a foam dash and glassed it, but I never finished it completely. I also did a center console a long time ago but again, the car got put on the back burner.. Now that I have more time, I plan on making all kinds of unique stuff for the Z. Myron
  14. Yeah, I'm torque junkie and its easier to get that with more cubic inches!.. I just gotta get the garage cleaned out now... Z240, that is a nice looking turboed blue oval... Myron
  15. I hear ya!.. The guy that has the SBC summit crate motor has come down some more on the price. Only bad thing is a T6 tranny isnt cheap!.. My last Z had a 700R4 at first and then TH350 so this one has to be a stick!.. My brother has two small turbos in his "junkpile" that he said I could have so if I feel the need I cna maybe drop the compression on the SBC and do a mild TT V8... I guess I need to start looking for a 9" or at least a wrecked Q45 as well. Myron
  16. Thanks guys! In the long run, I'm looking for some real grunt. My first Z was putting almost 400 to the ground so starting out at 1/2 that may be a bit of a buzzkill.. I like the idea of a streetable car with stick shift, and my brother is pretty well versed in the turbo scene so it seemed like an RB would be a good choice... Any ideas of how much it would cost to stroke the 20 up to at least a 25/26? Myron
  17. Hey Guys, It has been many years since I have been here but I have been bitten by the bug again.. Anyway, my last swap was a 355inch SBC into a 77. It was 464 HP and the car was a ton of fun.. So here is the deal, I have a 78 chassis and I have 3 guys trying to sell me engines.. The choices are: RB20DET/5 speed complete and ready to drop in for 2100.00 355inc SBC carb to pan 425HP Summit crate motor 1000.00 6 liter Pontiac Goat motor w/built auto and other mods 5000.00 I have never messed with turbo motor and it seems like it would be a decent challenge to get up to speed on some newer technology. I like the idea of being able to do almost all bolt-ins with this one. My brother would be helping alot on this because he has a collection of stupid fast Neons. The SBC is obviously the most economical in terms of getting HP/$. The late model goat motor with the cam and tune without emissions and free flow has the most HP/TQ right off the bat. Being I'm not familiar with the RB motor, can any of you give me a little insight into this swap? Thanks, Myron
  18. Hey guys, I inadvertantly got into a different industry and I am focusing all my efforts into projects I can use.. Anyway I want to sell my 78 Z car and 98 Trans AM donor car.. The 78 is is basically a rust free and dent free chassis.. I removed all the paint on the body(not including the doors/hood/hatch and fenders) down to the metal... The car had factory trim so I did start filling those holes so that is the only major body work.. I have a dash with a good cover and all the interior parts have been re-dyed black.. I dont have the door panels because a Hybridz member here ripped me off on those and I dont have the seats either. I have some adjustable lower control arms for it and I removed the spare tire well... the 98 LS1 donor car DROVE onto the trailer under its own power when I got it.. It was a wrecked car so we have since removed all its body panels and roof and interior... I was just gonna pull the motor and tranny and axle and stick it under the Z... Anyway its an excelent project car with a great motor... I dont think you would be able to buy a complete LS1 takeout for that 3K price... My loss is your gain! If you interested please call 936-443-9359 or email me at myron@axcesstech.net Thanks, Myron
  19. Might want to look into an hi-po fuel pump, injectors and pressure regulator.. Maybe some 36lb injectors. Also look at an upgraded coil or MSD box for it.. Maybe get you hands on the LT1 edit software and tune it yourself via laptop. Myron
  20. Hey Turbo, I was getting my hot rods mixed up!.. A buddy of mine has a 70 camaro that would run 6.5x with a 383 roller motor.. Then he built a 514 CI and is spraying it.. It runs 5.3x on the motor and 4.9x on the juice and 1.25 60'.. I did find your album with pics and I spotted out the 9"... What about internals? CR? and what turbos are you using?. Garret T3/4? After much creative financing it looks like I will be able to keep my LS1 and I look forward to getting the motor on the stand... Myron
  21. Hey Thanks Scotty and Drax! I still have a perfect 78 rust free shell and I have that 98 LS1 donor car. Its just been crazy for me lately.. Moved to Austin and I'm in a rent house. I cant "modify" the garage to suite my needs so the car is on the back burner. I also own 2 rent houses in the Houston area and they have both recently cost me alot of money so that makes working on the Z that much harder.. Turbo, My brother has a buddy that is building a twin turbo LS1 Camaro SS and he has expressed intrest in doing the same for my Z . My brother is also big into the Neon scene so I cant let the boy have a faster car! Looks like your running a solid axle, 12 bolt or 9"? What are you putting to the ground for 5.30 time slips? I will check your profile for more info! Myron
  22. Hey TurboMeister, I was a frequenter of this board a few years ago(member #4 or #9 I forget) but I have dropped out of site for a while.. Anyway I have been watching your videos and looking for more info on your car. Do you have a web site or any other specs you would be willing to share?... I have a 78 project that I may be selling the motor/donor car from but your videos are really pushing me to do everthing possible to keep my project alive! Myron
  23. Hey Guys, It has been forever since I have been in here, lots going on! Anyway I was going to post this in the for sale section but since it is a chevy V8 specific deal and it is a parts car I though it would be best to post it here. I purchased a 98 Trans AM LS1 parts car a while ago.. long story short is I had some very large unexpected expenses pop up and I have to sell it.. Anyone looking for a complete LS1 with an auto tranny and a good solid axle send me an email at (myron@axcesstech.net).. The car is located north of Houston Texas in the Conore area... I dont have wheels on it but could arrange for some loaners to get it loaded on a trailer... Myron
  24. Hey Guys, Since Uncle Sam finally returned that loan I gave him all last year, It is burning a hole in my pocket! I am looking at the Arizona "complete" front road race assembly... I am also looking at Modern motorsports stuff... Are there any other ones to look at?... Is it just mo-betta to build them up myself?... pros and cons to the Arizona Complete kit? Myron
  25. Hey Guys, I am in the Dallas area on biznizz and I am looking to kill some time this evening. Any of you guys know a good place to hang out and throw back a few cold ones? Myron 936-443-9359
