yea, im new to all the datsun/nissan terminology and have a few questions... is its possible to swap a 90+ 300zx tt motor and trany in to a 72 240?? if it is possible, how hard would it be to do and what are some of the cautions of doing this? is there any other engine that i should look into swaping in (not a american v8 or a skyline motor...)? if you could tell me the technical terms in lamens' term, that would be awsome.

thanks hail.gif

Yes, it's been done... a guy by the name of Greg Dupree has a Z32 TT engine in a Datsun... pretty sure it's a 240 with some 280zx wheels, if he can do it, so can you!

Here are some pics that I found...

It's a quick little Z, I'm sure you'd have fun with it!

as for different engines, the buick 3.8 turbo is a pretty nice swap and I've heard of using a supra engine. not alot of info on the supra but if you talk to scottie-gnz then he can give you plenty of info on the turbo buick

yea, ive seen/herd about the gn conversion but i want to keep it a manual and not spend a small furtune doing the conversion of supra engine (although it would be sweet). i was asking about the 300 conversion cause i want at least a single turbo engine that was made in the last 10 yrs because of reliability and aftermarket mods. thanks for the info.

Drop me an email Drew. Are you in the Toronto area?.. east end perhaps?

Anyways. I have the single turbo swap. (VG30ET) and I know of a 94 300zxtt driveline sitting at my mechanics shop. He is just itching to drop it into a 240. I almost did it myself, but circumstances came about and I went for the VG30ET instead.

It can certainly be done and as mentioned above, Greg did an excellent execution of the swap.

The VG swap is quite intriuging (gaahhhh, cant spell intriuging?!?!) i was also looking into the Supra engine swap, either a 7MGTE, which has been done by a guy on this forum, or the 2JZ swap, which would probly be a little more costly, but much cheaper then a Skyline swap, not sure where it would put you on quarter mile time but im sure it wouldnt be too shabby, only problem is the only one ive heard of is one that was on Ebay a long while ago... never been able to find any info on that swap though... well good luck on finding the swap you want to do, im still undecided but the RB26 is the route i would most like to go...

Drew, welcome.

As you will find out, everyone has their favorite engine and opinions. FWIW, here is my $.02.

The TT swap will be more complex and expensive to execute and maintain. IMO, the VG30ET is very good, reliable engine that is grossly under-rated. You can get a VG30ET drivetrain for a song and then freshen it up with a 3-angle valve job, rings and bearings. Unless you are planning on major HP, that will suffice. No need to worry about aftermarket parts as this is a turbo engine and the typical NA mindset does not apply here. Your focus will be on a turbo upgrade (turbos are somewhat generic), fuel system (injs, pump and FPR), exhaust and I/C. Those are what you will need to make HP and none are specific to the engine itself.

Bottom line is, how much $$$ are you willing to spend and how much power are you looking for. If $$$ is a concern look to the L28ET as your 1st option. OTOH, you did mention the TT, unless you are unaware of the cost.

i have a pritty good idea of what i want to do to the engine/car and what i can expect from it. if its a turbo engine, i would upgrade the fuel system, turbo(s), intercooler....you know the drill.

i was wondering about the zx motr cause i really like the idea of a tt motor plus i dont think that it'll be that hard to come by. my buddies got a 93 tt rx7 and that thing goes pritty nice stock let alone what hes going to do to it.

i dont want to spend 10's of thousands of $$ for a crazy motor. i want to get something that would be reliable (v6 prefered), newer and that i can push like 400-500hp out of it. im just asking around on whats an easy conversion and thats cheap... keeping in mind that i want it to be a turbo and an import motor.

oh, and i live in vancouver.

thanks for the input

I'd go with the single turbo VG30ET swap over the twin swap as well. Initial costs will be a lot less, and you don't have quite as much of a mess in the engine bay when you go to work on it. smile.gif In either case, I'm sure ZR8ED can help you out with a lot of the logistics...

On the other hand, that timeslip is pretty scary. smile.gif 1.84 60'... if he could duplicate some of the 60' times around here (1.55ish) that 10.62 becomes REALLY scary. YIKES!
