MYRON
Does anyone out there have any experience with a turbo and a supercharger on an LT1?? I know the pros and cons between the two, but I am curios as to running either on the LT1.. Actualy I have never heard of anyone running a turbo on the Lt1... I have been playing around with the desktop dyno and the turbo seems to be a pretty good option... What do you think???
randy 77zt
get a copy of this monthes gm hightech performance-they do a turbo install.you cant put too much boost to stock engine cause comp ratio is 10to1.
MYRON
I plan on cutting the C/R to acomidate the boost. I have just heard that LT1's respond better to differnt forms of forced induction... I like the idea of no drag on the crank if I was to go with turbo, but the Turbo creates alot of heat under the hood and the xtra plumbing involved may be very costly and difficult with the cramped space between the frame rails. I was thinking custom headers that come forward... I just dont know what is going to be my best option... Myron
Guest JAMIE T
Myron, a turbo kit is available for the LT1 F-body cars. I think it is Turbonetics. I could not find the add in my GM hightech perf. magazine but I have seen it before. I looked into it for my 94 Z28 6spd, but it was like $4200 or something like that, too much for me. I chose to use nitrous as these things respond very well to a small hit. A friend of mine has a Z28 auto trans, that has LT4 heads & intake and HOT cam kit, it runs 12.20's on the motor and jumps to a 10.90's when sprayed with a 125 shot. Before he installed the heads and stuff, he had a Vortech supercharger, and the car ran mid 11's. It could have run harder if he had lower compression so he could pulley for more boost. I am a VORTECH man myself, as I have had a very hard running 5.0 mustang, that ran a Vortech. 10.90's on drag radials with a stickshift. Not super fast but I did drive it from VA to Maple Grove raceway in PA before doing it(with the top down)
Guest RON JONES
Maple grove,Jamie is that place the best or what!I have only had the pleasure of racing there once, and that place is my favorite track.I've been to Lebanon Vally Dragway,New England Dragway,Island Dragway,Englishtown,Atco,Cecil county, and Hampton L.I.and Maple Grove is by far the nicest.I wish it wasn't so far for me to get there,I'd go all the time. Owen
Do a search on the net, I've seen at least 3 blown LT-1s in magazines. I think some guy used Skulte designs for his engine...can't remember any of the links though.
