When HKS's twin turbo V8 Supra arrives, it'll give the pro stock class a run for the money. Isn't this thing supposed to push around 1400 horses at the wheels? I haven't been really into IDRC this year but I'll definitely head to Englishtown if this car runs there. I'd go out on a limb and say this thing'll run in the high if not mid 6's. I'm already aware of two japanese cars that have run in the 6's overseas. One was a twin turbo Soarer (Lexus SC400 here) that ran a 6.98 @ 194 mph and the other was a twin turbo Q45 that ran at 6.94 @ 201 mph. They both uprooted the previos record holder, a Skyline-powered 180sx (hatchback 240sx) that ran a best of 7.13@182mph. I wish I knew more about these cars or could read japanese. How fast are some of the Pro Stock cars getting?

That will be interesting to say the least. One thing you can count on; if/when the Asian car makers decide to do something auto-performance wise-they usually have one thing in mind...WINNING!

I havent really kept up on pro-stock myself; but I guess I'll be keeping an ear out for that Eastern Invasion.

Kevin,

Yeah it'll be neat. Adam Sarawutari's new NSX is expected to run in the high 6's. There was a puerto rican drag car that ran a 186mph exhibition pass. The owner said he'd ran faster unofficial times. It'll be interesting to watch. 500CI vs. turbos. There are a total of 6 twin turbo V8 cars that are to be released in next year's IDRC season. I'll be watching closely.

Do not hold your breath waiting for NHRA to allow imports in Pro Stock. They do not even allow EFI for Christ's sake.

One of the import racing sanctioning bodies is putting together a class similar to Pro Stock or they can try to run in the NSCA Pro Street class where anything goes. Yesterday they ran at Orlando and I watched a choppped down Plymouth station wagon with a blown Hemi go 6.68 @ 216!!!! Here they allow any body style and there were station wagons, 57 Chevys, early and late Vettes, a Saturn on up to a really sleek Viper. I stood in the pits for minutes staring in amazement at a couple of single turbo Mustangs with 6" DPs!!!! How much air do you have to be moving to need a 6" DP? Well Adam Sarawutari said he was expecting 2000hp and based on the weight I saw posted on the station wagon it is putting out about 2200hp. Hmmmmm.

Pics Scottie, bring us pics! Pleeeease! icon_smile.gif I'd love to see some of those suckers. The NHRA stuff is somewhat boring to me. No EFI, no turbos, etc. etc. I'll never forget reading about the guy who ran a Buick V6 who got regulated off the track by the NHRA trying to appease the V8 guys. Damned silly! I want to see innovation and it sounds like you got to see a great deal of it. I hope you took pics icon_biggrin.gif

The Pro-stocks may be limited in some aspects, but they are to be admired for the times they run given the rules they must obey. The pro-stockers are limited to 500 cubic inches and no power-adders, yet they run 6.80s at 200+ (consistently).

The cars at the World Street Nationals were very impressive because of the variety and horsepower. Most of the cars had in excess of 600 cubic inches and some sort of power adder. The turbo cars were phenomenal. One car had four turbos. The fastest only ran slightly faster than a Pro-stock.

The Japanese turbo-cars are impressive but should not be compared to Pro-stocks. There are plenty of NHRA and IHRA classes that are comparable. IHRA Pro-Mod comes to mind.
