Guest chevsun
Where does everyone get insurance? I have about $15,000 in my car but as soon as I start talking roll cage, fuel cell,6 speed and an 8 cylinder in a car that was designed for a 6 I don't get much further and they tell me sorry but we wont cover that. I have my vette insured through Hagarty Classic Insurance but they won't touch my Z. Any suggestions besides Lloyds of London?
warrenp
in maine we can register out v8 z's as either "HOT RODS" "ANTIQUES" OR "kit car" A a kit car has to be registered but the chassis. even if it's a lamborghani on a fiero frame with a v8. to the DMV it's just a fiero v6 or 4 cyl. "hot rods" like t-buckets u can do pretty much what ever u want. and same with antiques. the insurance company goes by the vin on the car so to the it's just a L6 z. save ur slips!!! cuz if u get in to a axident, the insurance company has to pay u for what u have in to it or put the car back in to condition it was in befor the axident. thats what happined to my friend inhis vw they replance every thing sway bars, stainless exaust system, wheels, lowering springs, etc.... everything
pparaska
That's weird. Hagerty has mine insured for $20K and it's not even finished yet! Don't say that it will be raced - that's the killer. They know you might take it to a track day to see how it will do, but they don't want to be insuring cars that are raced. Call Bob - he's pretty cool to deal with: Bob DeKorne Special Account Services Hagerty Classic Insurance (231) 933 3766 bdekorne@hagerty.com
Mike kZ
Mine's insured by Hagerty for 20K also. They did ask if this is a race car, and kept drilling me about it, hoping that I'd slip and say yes. But I told them it's just for show . pparaska
I was honest with them. I told them I'd take it once a year or so to the track (I doubt I'll get there more often than that) to see how it runs. They seemed satisfied by that. They really want to only insure nice cars that are show-ish, not race cars. You can't blame them since they will give you and AGREED value policy for the thing. But they don't have a mileage limit - they love to hear that people actually drive the things to car meets, etc. The only problem that some might have with their policies (other than the race car issue) is that they don't want it used to commute to work, although they said if I drove it a few times to show people at work, they'd not have a problem with that. For me, the use policy they have and my intended use (pleasure driving) was a decent match. My car is a bit over-the-top as far as the body/paint quality for a daily driver anyway, and the parking lot at my work is notorious for door dings. I'd not want it out there anyway. Heck, if someone wants to see it at lunch or something, home is only 1.5 miles away from work so I can just go switch cars .
Guest chevsun
Thanks guys I think I will try Bob at Hagarty's. I havent put over 1500 miles a summer on the car and it hasn't seen the strip. I just did most of the racing mods to keep the car stable with the V-8. I am doing a full suspension upgrade this winter including the cv upgrade and a 377cid with all the goodies.
