Guest Lee Smith
Hi everbody My name is Lee Smith, I am new to HybridZ [ 4-5 days ] & to Zcars [ Jan. 01 ] I am a old farmer, 62, with a fare farm shop,I got my 1st Z in Jan. 01. The 2ed & 3ed a 82ZX 2+2 & 84ZXT about 4mo. ago, I am just about done reconditioning them, a little interor work yet. The 4th. a mo. ago with bad motor, next project. The largest project, was a Mack semi to st.truck. The most compecluatted, was a 4 wheel drive 4wheel sear loader, made out of army 6X6 ft. axles, powered by chev. 6cyl. it would lift 3000+lb. and turn on a dime. Enough of my rantting, just wanted you I am not some kid with pipe dreams, wasteing your time. I am thinking of a V8 84ZX. I am looking for info on the swap and specs on parts I need to make. I have stock Ford and CSB V8s, stick & ATs to chose from. The 84Z is 5spd. I have no preference on the above, only the best/eases swap. Thanks in advance. DavyZ
First, welcome to the forum! There is precious little information on any V8 swap for the 3rd gen Z cars. However, Motorsport Auto sells a V8 swap the kit for the 2nd generation Z cars if you are so inclined ('82 model). I think you are on your own with respect to the 3rd gen swap, sorry. Guest Lee Smith
My 84 is na, but the ECU is for sale, if it is not tied into dash guages or heater, make me a offer, somthing is better then nothing. Will a S10 4spd bolt to a V8 ? I am thinking older carb moters. Trying to wire a newer FI motor would be a can of wire worms. Ha Ha The 5spd is also for sale, make orrer+shipping. Gray Hound bus may be the cheepest ?? Lee Smith 50532
Guest Anonymous
I don't think a S10 tranny will help you very much its way to weak. If you were going to use a non overdrive manual transmission, you'd be better off with a T10 or even a Saginaw over the S10 tranny. Probably cost a bit more though as the old school muscle car guys like them. Just an opinion, Lone in Az. in absentia...
Guest Lee Smith
I just thought the S10 might fit better, I know they have put V8s in S10s, don't know how, the V6 looks tight.
John Scott
Did S10s come with a 4 speed?? If you're thinking of the S10 T5, too wimpy torque rating and way too low 1st gear. I believe the WCT5 S10 tail shaft will straighten the odd camaro/TA angle, but then you have a speedo problem as they don't have provisions for taditional speedo gear. I'd bet most of the S10 V8 swaps have upgraded their transmissions as well. JS
