260DET
Sounds like a fuel supply problem to me, but I've been wrong before
v8dats
i dont think that its a fuel problem.the car doesnt have the stock rusty gas tank.it has a fuel cell with a new pump.i checked the lines and they look pretty good. the car also makes a weird rattling sound under boost(sometimes)but thats when its running the best. my friend thinks that the turbo is about to go and thinks that the wastegate is working properly any suggestions? Guest Anonymous
Have you talked to Z Doc over in Tampa, I heard he was really good with turbo problems. If you can't get help there try getting up with Scotty GNZ in Orlando as he knows tons about turbo cars.
260DET
Yes, its pretty difficult to diagnose a fault without being there. Your 'wierd rattling sound' could be pre-ignition, then again it could be something mechanical.
Scottie-GNZ
260DET is on to something. If you are hearing a rattling sound under boost, STOP RUNNING THE CAR UNDER BOOST for now. That is probably the death-rattle, DETONATION. 2nd thing I would do is buy, beg, steal or borrow a fuel pressure gauge with a line long enough that you can extend to tape the gauge to the windshield so you can see the fuel pressure under boost. You should be able to build one of those for less than $50. I am guessing you are having a fuel delivery problem causing a lean condition. Pull the plugs and see if the engine is running lean.
