fl327
curently have a pretty stout L28et motor and trans im getting ready to drop into my new z body. here are some stats on it. ported p90 head forged dished pistons head decked-compression ratio is about 8-1 hks headgasket stock t3 ported non egr manifold stock injectors 280zxt harness with 85 300zxt ecu and maf 240sx 60mm tb 3"exhaust(have to cut and reweld to fit early z chassis.) fmic(probably npr, dont have one yet) the motor came out of a 82zxt that ran high 12's with a bigger turbo, injectors, and large fmic but with same harness, ecu. i plan to get everything wired up and go for the intercooler and bov once i get the gremlins work out. amy ideas how much power it would put out as is, and how much with a intercooler and bov??? it was dynoed with the more stock setup in the zxt body with 225hp and wasnt dynoed with the bigger turbo, inj, and fmic thanx guys, should have this thing on the road in a month or so. Guest Anonymous
Moderator care to bump this over to turbo section? I think I can answer a general question like this pretty well. Your things like forged pistons and ported p90 head /intake would really have some advantages for some power. I think you're gonna be at a dead end and find that you're constantly being held back by stock injectors and turbo- especially the injectors. I believe they are only 280cc/min injectors which pretty much leaves them around what you said it dynoed at (rwhp) before running too high duty, or they'll lean out and there goes your expensive pistons I can understand you not wanting to go all out if that's the case, but a bigger turbo and better injectors are a must, IMO. I scored some 460cc's for around $50, made the fuel rail for about $50, however the rest of the fuel stuff didn't go so cheap.. *gulp*.. if you count sds stand-alone efi, I'm probably gonna hit about $2000 for fuel alone Yeah I know.. a nice fuel pump, regulator, injectors, braided fuel lines, and programmable injection and you spend a lot. The upside is that I will never be lacking on fuel, and should I hear any knock, I'll be able to richen the mixture beyond my wildest dreams I'm not sure about the 300zxt ecu and all that. I know JWT doest a remapped 300zx ecu made for this purpose and I know a few guys are using it on this board with great results, all around 300 rwhp I believe. I think SDS will be a blast, and compared to other stand-alones is easier on the wallet. As far as turbo and i/c.. I've beat this one to death and came up with a good 60-1 t04b turbo, with a p-trim .58 turbine (note, this is a full t4, not a hybrid turbo, you have to weld a flange to fit this monster).. that thing can flow up to about 600 bhp, so it runs super efficient at about 400hp, moderate-high boost at 17-20 psi. Otherwise I'd pick a .57 trim t04e w/ a stage 3 .63 t3 turbine, it could make the same numbers just not as efficiently. As far as i/c, the npr is probably your best bet for oem unit, or a mkIV supra... and you aught to find one for about $200. To me its worth the extra 300 to get an even more efficient extruded tube core. Again just my opinion, but fuel and intercooling are NOT the place to skimp out on, that's a fact. Because who wants to fear their motor blowing up everytime they slam down WOT? I won't live in fear, I tell ya that. When I turn my boost up I'm gonna make sure its not leaning out and I have some sunoco 100+ race gas in there. Then I'm confident. Check out other peoples setups, especially some of the more recent ones, scotty just got his finished, and we all have our fingers crossed that he hits 11's soon Much respect for anyone who can do that on a tight budget. Good luck any which way -980mak
Lockjaw
HKS quoted 245 HP on a ZXT with all their supporting mods and an intercooler and 12 psi, so 225 seems reasonable. 980 made some good points you should think about. Fuel is the key to making power with a turbo. Having a good intercooler is also a must. I would spend my money where it counted and get a good spearco intercooler and sort out my fuel system before I got to deep in the project. I have the JWT upgrade with 420cc injectors, and am pleased with it. They may have to re-chip me for larger injectors soon, since I am upgrading the turbo, but that is not a big deal. The other thing about the t4 that was not mentioned is you have to use an external wastegate, so that is extra money you will end up spending. Good luck with it. fl327
when the money comes for bigger injectors and a bigger turbo, best bet thats what imma gonna do, but for now i want to get it to run pretty good, the components i do have are in very good working order and dont want to waste them. i have to do some body on this car and want to keep it driving in the meanwhile. my plan is to go with a hybrid turbo, a bigger set of injectors, some type of boost control, timer, trying to keep it basic, once i lock this combo, maybe sds or dfi is in order, but i want to make this thing put out all the power it can with what it has. thanx guyz.
