Guest Anonymous
Has anyone tried this part #. Hooker engine swap headers #2147. says fits Datsun 70 - 78 Z cars. Has 1 5/8" X 30" with 2 1/2" collectors. Will they fit the late model LT-1. Trying to find some long tubes that will work with the LT-1, instead of having to use the block huggers. DavyZ
They (headewrs) will fit if you use their V8 swap kit or something like it (Scarab). If you have the JTR conversion, the headers will not work. Davy
Guest zfan
Davey's right on target. I just purchased a pair of ceramic coated Hooker super com. headers and they are awsome for sure but will not fit non scarab cars!! zfan..Mike

Guest zfan
Sorry it took so long to reply as I was at the Barrett/Jackson car auction/show over the weekend. Will try to get some picks posted in the next week as Im finalizing install as we speak. I had to drop old exhaust, starter, steering rod, fuel line and valve covers. Also reroute trans cooler line. Probably three hour job if taking your time and most importantly no interuptions..Ha! But well worth it. By the way coated hooker super comps are not cheap, Summit sells them for 460.00 coated. The price we pay for our toys! zfan..Mike
pparaska
Ron, I whole-heartedly agree - if you're only interested in straight-line performance, then the Scarab/Hooker mounts are the way to go. There might even be an advantage to having the engine weight up higher with the Scarab position, as it may help front to rear weight transfer. But if I was building a car and wanted it to corner well, I'd just start out with the JTR swap, use a Canton road race pan, and watch out for the driveline angles in the driveshaft. Not saying that the Scarab conversion handles horribly, but why not start out with the F/R weight bias more towards 50/50 in the first place? Guest RON JONES
I have the complete Hooker kit.Motor Mounts and the rear crossmember and the headers.I know that these guys are right, the hooker headers won't work with the jtr conversion.I'm going to just hold on to this kit, just in case I come across a cheep Z to use this kit on.Some of You guys might hammer Me on this, but I feel the JTR conversion is over rated.Well it is In My case,I don't care about going around corners, just straight line 1/4 mile blasts! The Guy I got the kit from told Me he went to the JTR for the set back, and he was very surprized that it didn't do squat to His 1/4 mile times. He was bumed out that He wasted His money on doing the Scarab to JTR Conversion. He was a drag racer. Going around corners is most likely going to see the most inprovments on the JTR set-up.But if Your into Drag racing, your better off with the full length headers than the block huggers You have to use with the JTR set-up.Thats just My thinking on the whole Scarab,JTR options.
