80LS1T
I am putting a 93 LT1 and T56 in my 1980 ZX and I was wondering what a full exhaust(-headers) would cost? I would like to run duals to the axle then single to the muffler and out. I would also like the exhuast to have some stainless steel in it so that it doesn't rust. Also how much would it me if I did't use stainless steel? Thanks, Guy
Guest greimann
If I remember, I paid about $300 for a system where the shop provided the muffler and pipes, and I provided the cat convertors. It was made using aluminized pipe, not SS. It has held up very well after 8 1/2 years. Stainless is pretty exotic stuff and even if you can find a shop that works in it, it is going to be muy expensive. Not worth it in my opinion. 80LS1T
Has your exhaust rusted? Also did they weld everything together, where they could, or is it clamped together? $300 doesn't seem too bad! I would have thought more. Thanks Guy
Racin_Jason
Hey Greimann, Sounds like a sweet deal to me. Where did you have this done? I might have to tow the beast up there for a deal like that. Jason
Guest greimann
Everything is welded. Be sure to have a bolt flange just behind the Y into a single pipe so you can remove the system easily. My exhaust guy is very good, but he would have welded the entire system in one piece, preventing removal if I didn't tell him to flange it. The single pipe is 3" and the dual is 2.5" It hasen't rusted, except for some of the welds, but I don't live in the rust belt either and it doesn't rain out here. The system was originally done by Huntington Beach Muffler in 1994 so figure on some inflation. Here is a picture from last year when I had it out of the car. Racin_Jason
Ok thx for the info Griemann. Exhaust is one thing im really dreading on my car. The engine mounts are hand made and put the 355 lower than the JTR would...so the 700R4 (WIDEST tranny) is lower than usual also. There is NO way to get the pipes even partially beside the pan. It will have to be below the tranny/floor pan level. I suppose I will have to take the Eibachs off for ground clearance . I just hope the shop I end up going to can get it as tight to the body as possible. We'll see... BTW the R200 I bought from you still isnt in the car..lol.
