  1. Looks like I may have to find it the hard way. I was just hoping someone may have had experience with this
  2. Alright, I have a 71 JTR 240z with a chevy 350 in it that was apart until recently. I just put the dash back in and I 'think' it all got hooked back up correctly, but the problem could be that simple if we botched something. The dash was out for years and im rusty to be honest. So we put a battery in it today and it immediately blows a fuse on the green line. I checked it and its shorted to ground. This green line turns into a red with blue stripe 6" past the fuse box. This line is where the short is. When I checked the schematic, I saw this line goes to the gauges, which I had apart. It goes a lot of places. Plus it looks like it splices into black/white and goes to an auto tranny switch and tranny temp switch. It looks like it taps into other lines also so before I start chasing this short, I thought Id ask here since I havent worked on this car in years. Maybe Im forgetting something. Any help appreciated, thank you. Jason (Ill attach a schem' also. The line shorted is the green coming off the upper right of the fuse box, which turns into red/blue, but that isnt shown on this schem. When i disconnect the green from the red/blue connector, the green is no longer shorted so its on that red/blue line.)
  3. I'm still looking if anyone can help. I'm looking to do the 280zx caliper and disk and need the maxima brackets. Thanks
  4. Rejracer. That is exactly the setup I'm planning on so its good to hear that they work well for you. I've already bought the rebuilt 240z front calipers and now Im trying to source drilled rotors for reasonable prices. I'm still 'shopping' for the maxima rear brackets and the drilled 280zx rotors and 280zx calipers. As always, I'm still open to suggestion.
  5. I already have an R200 with CVs. My struts are converted to coilovers also so no swapping for me. I'm still leaning towards rebuilt stock front 240Z calipers w/drilled solid rotors & some sort of maxima bracket w/280zx drilled rotors and caliper in the back. I am thinking this combo will be well balanced in stopping power front to back and not require a larger master cylinder. I havent bought anything yet though..
  6. Besides the disks being much easier to service, I also think the prices for the drum rebuilt pieces are ridiculous. The exaggerated charge for wheel cylinders alone was enough to make disks my choice for the rear. I'm still on the fence about doing 4x4 front calipers up front with the maxima rear swap. I think a good, rebuilt set of stock front brakes may balance well with the maxima rear single pistons. Balance is important for over all stop distance and I dont want to mess with a proportioning valve really. Opinions?
  7. I hadnt heard of Desert Z but am looking at his stuff right now. Thanks for the tip mditt. rejracer - Those maxima brackets seem a little hard to come by but Im lookin. I welcome any other links or suggestions Jason
  8. The title says it all. Please respond with what you have and what works with it. I'm a ready buyer with paypal, cash or credit. Can pay shipping if not local (san diego). Thanks Jason
  9. So I think Ive decided to stick with a fresh set of 240z front brakes on my street V8Z. Then I quickly found out that converting the rears is a bit more complicated than i remember. Availability and/or part costs have changed it seems. The maxima rear brackets are not available it seems. The proper 240sx calipers for the MM kit are pricey! Silvermines kit is overkill when matched to the stock fronts. Can I still do a basic rear disk conversion by piecing together *available*parts? I'm simply trying to convert my rear to disk and match it somewhat closely to the stock 240z front setup. TIA Jason
  10. A belated thank you for this thread! I am about to get around to 'refreshing' the brakes on my V8Z (425ish @ crank) and I was about to purchase upgrade kits for the F&B that wouldve set me back over $1200. This is a street car and nothing more (well..drags). This opened my eyes to the idea of putting good pads on my stock front brakes and doing a basic pieced-together rear disk setup - apparently it'll do the job! This will save LOTS of money and ease installation. How is the balance on a system like I just described? Can I even use the stock proportioning block?? Oh..do I need to upgrade the MS for added capacity in the rear calipers? Thanks! Jason
  11. That's a lot of bite for little to no bark. I like it. I also chuckled a bit when I say the GTR in the opposing lane. As soon as the camera shows just the wing and roofline..i knew what it was. heh Did you end up fabbing some sort of Y-pipe to the turbo inlets for a filter or are you simply running screens?
  12. hurry! We wanna see the rest of that beast
