Scottie-GNZ
Ron, I checked out that site with the HP calculator and IMO, any formula that calculates HP and does not factor trapspeed is not going to be very accurate. MPH is the true indicator of HP and I think the following is a much more accurate formula and the HP result is at the wheels: (MPH squared / ET) * (weight with driver / 1000) / 9.1 yesterday I ran 12.41 @ 114.7 and my car weighs 2750 and the HP result is 320 at the wheels. I know I lost .5 on the ET because of the launch and if I changed the ET to 11.91, the HP would jump 13. However, if I increased the MPH by 5, the HP would jump 29. Perfect example of why this is more accurate is that you can reduce your ET dramatically by installing a very low diff ratio and not a single increase in HP. However, the only thing that will increase MPH is HP. Scottie

Guest RON JONES
I,m sure your right scottie, but its fun anyway. On the other hand I use to have a 80 malibu w/468 and I use to change gears all the time,4.56,4.30,4.11,and the car use to run with in .05 and the same mph(up or down a couple mph) with all those gears. The only thing that would change is the rpm going trough the traps. The link that I posted tells me I have 853.96hp at the wheels.John Scott used my mph to calculate my HP and came up with 858(I think),I,m not sure if thats power at the wheels.Whats funny is it tells me I,m making 1110.14hp at the crank.Boy that dyno I go to must be way off, seeing as it only made 800hp even at the crank,he he he. Scottie-GNZ
Ron, I dont know what your car weighs, but I guessed at 2600lbs with you in it and came up with 854hp at the wheels. If you apply the 80% rule that's 1068hp at the flywheel. BTW, I saw a Z-car at Lakeland Dragstrip (FL) Saturday night. I was in line and he was at the lights. It was purple and sounded like a big block. Did not hear his time or see the car for the rest of the night. Do you know of this car? SpeedRacer
Since we have traded emails you know that I think you should take that '72 Z and do a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO from Thunder Ranch http://www.thunderranch.com/gto1.htm but then I am very biased! If you decide to do it please let me know if I can help. BTW I have a couple of new shots in my album if you are interested http://www.zing.com/album/?id=4294856715 Good luck. Guest RON JONES
Stan,I can,t wait to here how that thing runs with that motor.I run a 8" 5700 stall converter and you would be very surprised how streetable it is,the problem I have is tire rub going over bumps and keeping it from geting to hot.Tell your brother wheelie bars are a must. scarp
Ron Wheelie bars were part of the 9" setup so they are allready there... Stan
Scottie-GNZ
Ron, with 2710lbs, the numbers are 890hp at the wheels and 1113hp at the flywheel using the 80% rule. In either case, those numbers broke my calculator, hehe. Scottie
