Electric Fuel Pump and Regulator

Hello all..........my first post, so I need to thank you all for the great info. on so many subjects.

Initial situation: L26 with dual SU's, SM needles. I've been fighting a problem with "running out of fuel" at about 5500 RPM & a little pinging under load at 3500 toward the end of a steep grade (freeway). I checked the mechanical fuel pump out put and it's just at 3.5 psi (low end of spec.). I'm running the mechanical only (took out the stock electric when I first fired the engine up, and have never persued putting it back.)

So, with future mods in mind (modded L28 w/Tripple Dellortos), I've decided on putting in an electric pump. Looks like the Carter 7 psi is a good & quiet one (& low $), but I can't seem to find a regulator that goes below 4.5 psi. Eveerything I've read here says I want to be in the 3.5 range, especially when I go with the tripples.

Regulator suggestions, complete with part number & source, would be appreciated.

I have the slightly smaller Carter 5 psi street pump. I mounted it on one of the rear suspension verticals. I bought a CP products chrome regulator. It goes from 1-5 psi. A lot of other companies including Mr. Gasket have a similar one ~$25. Give Summit/Jegs a call and tell them what you're looking for. I upgraded to this for my 2.8l motor and triple Del'Lortos that's on the stand in the shop waiting for me to have time...
