Hybrid240z
I just had a quick question. I am finally working on my 240Z and am finding problems, but fixing them too. The car has triple SK carbs but the gas tank return line is not connected and it doesn't have a fuel pressure regulator. It is running the stock mechanical fuel pump. Is there supposed to be a fuel pressure regulator and should the return line be hooked up? I need to know fast so I can work on that this weekend. I want to get the car on the road. Also, any recommendations on what fuel pressure regulator to run. Thanks, Marcos
Guest torynich
I have asked this question before and the answer I got was it doesnt matter. If you want a return line, put one in, if not, no prob. My webers dont have one and I dont have a problem. As for the pressure, the webers dont want more than around 3 lbs and I believe that should be the same for yours also. I have one of those round fuel pressure regulators with 5 settings and the dial on 3 that you can get from AutoZone that seems to be working. I plan on getting a fuel pressure gauge soon so that I know for sure what I am at.
Hybrid240z
Do you know what kind of fuel pressure the mechanical fuel pump puts out if you don't use a fuel pressure regulator? Would that damage the carbs or make the car run rich? I guess I am not really worried about the return line if not having one doesn't damage the fuel pump. So a fuel pressure regulator is necessary...right? Thanks, Marcos
Hybrid240z
Oh yeah, what kind of fuel pressure should I run if I'm supposed to use a fuel pressure regulator. Thanks, Marcos

Mike C
The pressure requirements for the SUs and the triples are about the same. ~ 3psi and up to 4 should be no trouble. I run a Carter 5 psi street electirc pump and an adjustable regulator on my SUs set at 3.4 psi. I plan to use same setup without a return line on my triple Del'Lortos. Hybrid240z
I was thinking of running the fuel pressure regulator, a fuel pressure guage, and no return line too. What fuel pressure regulator are you using and how do you set it up if you don't run a return line? Is the one from Motorsports Auto any good and would it work with no return line? Thanks, Marcos
Mike C
Mine is a chrome one that came from Summit or Jegs, I forget which. $25 if memory serves here... There are several different manufacturers with similar units. You might even get one at a local parts store. Has a knob you turn and 1-6 psi range. To install it, just splice it inline with the carbs. I mounted my pump in the back and the regulator as close to the carbs as I could.
