Guest Anonymous
hey guys , about that 350 block I got from the kids that tore it up . I am disassembling it for rebuild, and I thought I would measure the bore, I dont have a inside mic, but with a cheap caliper it measures about 3.80, now am I wrong or isnt a 350 block supposed to measure 4 +what ever overbore it is ? it is a later model block I think, (one piece rear main). so somebody steer me in the right direction here. John Scott
Just a guess...did you get a 305? The stock bore of a 350 is 4 inches JS [This message has been edited by John Scott (edited June 07, 2000).]

Guest Anonymous
Takman, I assume you are opening the calipers in the cylinder bore and pressing the outside of the calipers against the cylinder walls. If you are measuring the bore using this method you must add the thickness of the calipers to your measurement. If that is not the case then I have absolutely no idea. To the best of my knowledge (keep in mind I am no Chevy expert) no SBC had a 3.800 bore. Chris
DennisK
The bore on the 305 is 3.736.
Guest Anonymous
did they make a 305 with a 1 piece rear main seal? And I dont think I got it put to me , since I got the whole thing for 150.00 with brand new edelbrock intake and carb, new altenator new chrome valve covers and breather, alum water pump, billit timing cover and lots of other new small chrome goodies. But thanks for your remarkable insite Stan. Never the less I now have to go with one of these old blocks I have laying around, and dont know if any are worth messin with yet, guess I had better start lookin at them a little closer. ------------------ 74 260, sbc 350, 700r4, and a few little HP Mods.just gettin started good. speedtechcoatings.com [This message has been edited by takman57 (edited June 07, 2000).]

Guest Locutus
you have to look at the casting codes. There is a cast code usually on the back on the ledge where the tranny attaches, there is also a stamped code on the block in the front. If you are facing the engine it will be on your left, it is one the block face just in front of the head. With either of those numbers you can find out the displacement, and what the stock config was. the back one will give you displacement and years, the front one if it hasn't been machined off, will tell you the car, the year and the setup. I have all the Casting and suffix codes for chevy small blocks if you want me to run numbers for you Mike
Guest Anonymous
No thanks Mike ,I guess I know all I need to know about this block , I wont be using it for this project. guess I will just put it aside for later consideration. Oh btw I got some pics and a company logo tonight , I will send them to you in a bit, along with some password action. later, Tony ------------------ 74 260, sbc 350, 700r4, and a few little HP Mods.just gettin started good. speedtechcoatings.com
Guest Anonymous
If you need a block, I have one. I believe it has not been bored, and I have a std/std crank and some rods that go with it. It'll be decently cheap, but not quite like the deal that you got on the complete motor. Let me know if you or anyone else could use it, I'm running our of room...
