quicker240
anyone have any input on using mobil 1 synthetic oil on a fresh rebuilt engine?I have always used synthetic, but some one told me today that the rings may not seat well due to the higher resistance to wear,BS or something to it?Seems I've heard something like this before. It's gonna get changed the first time pretty quick anyway.Any thoughts? Guest greimann
You could use it just fine, but the best reason not to use it is your last comment about a quick change out. No use spending $4 a quart on something that is only going to be in for 500 miles or so. Synthetic oil does not have a lower friction factor than conventional oil. Its main benefit is that it resists oxidation due to elevated temperatures and has a higher viscosity index (resistance to change in viscosity across a temperature range) so it can be used in wide temperature applications. Guest Anonymous
I do not synthetic oil untill you have 2500-3000 miles on the engine. The rings won't seat properly if you do. That's the way I do it on all the engines that I build.
