Fuel Injection problem?

My car has been acting up lately and we can't seem to find the problem. Here are the symptoms and if you have any suggestions please let me know.

When you press the gas pedal sometimes you get a response and other times it does not recognize it, and then catches real fast after that surging it forward, then not recognizing the pedal again. This all started after we went in and replaced the clutch for the engine fan and in the process I left the key in the on position draining the battery. So we recharged the battery and took the car out, and this problem started happening at random times, sometimes it would run very good and others we weren't sure it would make it around the block. We went in a week ago and tested the alternator and battery, battery was fine but we had to replace alternator and after that the problem seems to be happening less, but still when it does happen it is obvious. We still don't know if the two issues are related at all.

My dad's best bet is that the fuel injection system is shutting off intermittently, his next guess is that ignition is shutting off intermittently. We can't get the problem to happen while doing anything with the car at rest (while we are working on it in the garage). If you have any ideas or a good resource for info on how to diagnose this problem please let me know.

yeah, my Z had terrible throttle response when cold until i swapped the air flow meter. It would sputter and not climb RPMs even if the gas was floored. Poof! Starts at the touch of the key now and runs excellent.

I had similar symptoms when my air boot between the MAF and throttle body was leaking. The car would buck really bad when trying to start off like it was not getting gas. It would cruise at normal speeds just fine though once you got up to speed. I wrapped the whole rubber boot in duck tape for the time being, and it runs perfect.

I have to agree that the TPS or the AFM boot are the most likely to cause the problem. I would replace the TPS and rubber boot (between the AFM and Throttle body) on general principle. Also check the electrical connector on the TPS (threes mini spade) for corrosion. cuss.gif No not on a Z car.

The water temper switchs (two for FI) are located near the fan clutch, verify that the connections are solid and that they are connected properly.
