T04 Questions

.....i have a stage III T04B w/a .57trim and watercooled center section.....external wastegate...i think the guy that made mine had to machine the housing to get it all to fit......

.....i just asked the local turbo-auto guy to make me one that he thought would be the best for a "street" car and thats what he came up w/.....i'm really pleased w/mine......@this point i'm just running it off of the 9psi spring in the wastegate

.......i sent it and my manifolds to corkey bell (to have the manifolds modified) and he said that the turbo was (for all intents and purposes) a T04E now (except it will bolt right up to the manifold)....

....it may be cheaper to have this done to yours as opposed to having a new T04E made from scratch.....i have always heard the the T04E is more efficient though....you might need a spacer to fit it to the manifold....s

Thanks for the info everyone,

Just to clarify, I have a T4/ T04E NOT a T3/T04E hybrid so the turbine side of the turbo is larger, thus I should be able to come on to the boost smoothly with breathing room on the top end..........and yes the TO4E Compresor map for AR .50 shows 37 lb/min @ a pressure ratio of 2.4 (14.7X2.4=Total-14.7=20psi boost...please correct me if I'm wrong) with 78% efficiency. According to Kenny Bell your looking at about 10HP/lb/min so about 370hp.

So if thats the case, do I need to go with forged pistons?? Does it make sense to tear the motor down and turn it in to a stroker, or just consentrate on injection/ignition/exhaust/intercooler and run the stock turbo motor??

Yea Yea, I know so many questions, I just love talkin tech!! Thanks again!!

Cheers,

Ian

After reading all of these. I must say that I learn a lot! A lot indeed.

Thanks for all of your inputs. This forum is great! I began to have a clear idea on turbos now.

Ok, I am going to be semi rude about this too. First of all, Turbonetics sucks,s o if you buy your turbo there, and it breaks, you know why I say they suck.

Second, you can put just about any compressor wheel in a housing, be it a To4e or TO4b. So if you want a 60-1, I would stick it in an E housing since they are more efficient at higher boost levels.

Third a 50 trim to4E supports about 390 HP on a DSM, a 60 trim is good for about 25 more. If you want more power, get the 60-1 or 62-1.

Finally a compressor map is for a certain wheel in a certain housing. If you don't know what housing it is in, you don't know what you are going to get. Yes they are a good to get you a ballpark idea, but the bottom line is when you buy a turbo from someone like, say JWT, and they tell you what it will do, they have dyno'd it. I have a sport 450 and it made 413hp to the wheels on Jeffp's car.

Don't get a TO4B, or an H3 either. Get a 60 trim TO4E or 50 trim as your entry level, with a stage III 10 blade turbine in a .63 ar housing. If you want more, get the stage V turbine, and a 60 trim or 60-1. Still more, step up to the full T4 as James suggested. If you go full T4, just remember those don't bolt onto the nissan manifold, the hybrids do.

And to explain our titles are based upon our post numbers. I could be the biggest post whore on the site, and be the Z car grand Poobah and not know dick about a Z car. We don't pick the titles, they are assigned.

James is funny in person BTW.
