CU Zcar
Two questions: -does the 280ZXT radiator bolt into a 280Z (1983 and 1978, respectively)? I measured and the width is the same, but haven't looked closely at the bolt placement on my 78 radiator lately. -I have my choice of manual or auto 280ZXT radiators, I'd rather use the automatic one since it's out but I wonder if the integrated tranny cooler (which won't be used anymore in my swap) would decrease the effectiveness of the radiator over the one in the manual car, since the tranny cooler section I'd think would have to take up some of the radiator's surface area. Which do you recommend?
jeffp
You can use the zx radiator in your car. Tell you what, I am in the process of changing out my 4 core unit with an aluminum cross flow unit. I got the radiator from MSA and did all of the modifications required to properly fit it in the car. They sell them as plug and play, but that is not what you get. I ended up changing out the mounting brackets, the filler neck and over flow tube, I had to install the brackets for the shroud, and make an adjustment to the lower outlet fitting in order to fit my car correctly, like they said it would fit. I will sell you my unit for a good price if you are interested. The part has about 5K miles on it and the top is polished and clear coated, it loks very nice. let me know, mail me if you are interested, mrjeff@sbcglobal.net The radiator is at cr racing right now so they can build the cross flow unit correctly, but it should be back soon. z-ya
Yes, the 280ZX radiator will bolt right into a 280Z. It will extend below the bottom of the radiator support slightly more than the 280Z radiator, but not enough to cause clearance problems. As far as an aluminum unit, I just bought the Summit Racing 25"x19" aluminum racing radiator for my car. The only thing I need to do is have some brackets welded on because GM radiators mount from the top and bottom, not the sides like a Z. Besides routing the hoses, it looks like it will fit nice. The filler neck is on the passenger side. $169 from Summit. Not surprised about MSA selling something that doesn't fit, they do it all the time. They sent me brown seat covers twice when I asked for red. The guy working S&R must be color blind . Cheers Pete
