Guest Tht1KSguy
Alright guys. I simply can't make a decision on what project car I'm going to do next. I have an early 260Z in descent shape some rust on the floorpan otherwise good. If I do it it'll have a Caddy 472/500 with a T-56 behind it. A bellhousing is available now (although not blowproof) for the BOP bolt pattern to the T-56 so that's doable. The things I don't like about the Z is dated styling and interior. And the work it will take to do the bodywork including rollcage. Next is a 88 Fiero with a Northstar engine. I'm in the middle of buying the engine from JAMIE T. It will be mated to the 5pd in the car. These tranny's aren't especially strong but will do the job. These cars can be made to handle great (especially the 88's) and look somewhat modern. This car can be made to handle and brake very good for what I figure is about $6k invested. Then the field opens up. 3rd or 4th gen F-body. Can swap in the same Caddy/T-56 combo. Aerodynamic great handling options for increased braking. SN-95 Mustangs I'd choose this for looks over the earlier fox chassis cars. They can also be made to handle great but are heavy the same as the F-bodys. Important in all these increasingly is going to be whatever car I choose has to be usable regularly driven maybe not daily but often. Which means as gas prices go back up mileage will start to be important. My goal for any car is 20+mpg on the highway. I know it's possible with the northstar, maybe iffy with a fuel injected caddy and the deep overdrive 6th gear. I want the car to be a great all arounder. Fast in the quarter, great handling, somewhat comfortable. Has to have AC and be able to handle a 500mile roadtrip no problem. What advice do any of you have on these or any other options? Sometimes when you're in the middle of it all you miss the obvious. Everyone here always has some great insight. Thanks in advance.
denny411
my personal biased opinion would be to go with the 260Z/caddy hybrid, or maybe use the potiac 455. the 455 is not much more weight than the sbc but has more cubes and lotsa torque. I`m not sure what the weight diff would be between the caddy and pontiac engines, but you could still use the same trans and bell that you planned. Guest Drewz
Power to weight ratio favors the Z so Z'IT!!!!
fl327
do the 455, it will be sickly fast on the street. i make fun of my buddy every time i see him about rebuilding his 350olds motor, when he could plop a 455 right in that sucker.
