ratedZ
Hey guys, I posted this on zcar.com and have been told that I need to clean the head as the valves are sticking. I've been pointed towards using SeaFoam but was wondering what are the alternatives to getting them cleaned. Any other engine flushing kit that is readily available from like say, Auto Zone? OR can I clean it by hand while on the car? The car has not suffered in the performance range but wanted to get rid of the annoying ticking noice. By the way, this is my first time cracking the engine open ever since I've owned the car for 3 years so please be gentle lol.
fl327
try and pinpoint which lifters are ticking, which can be hard, ive heard of people running atf in the engine oil for a few miles, and then changing it out to get the ticking out, depending on how soiled they are is how good that works i woudl think, you may have to yank them all and clean them. Guest Anonymous
Heres a simple way to help somewhat in locating that noisey lifter....use a small section of hose as a stethoscope and run it along the head till you can hear which one is the problem lifter. Also if you look around at auto parts stores you can find hydrolic lifter cleaner/solvent to clean them, and I believe you add it to your oil and just run it to solve the prob.em noise.
